Jimmy Sheirgill reveals returning signing amount to filmmakers post the success of Mohabbatein

In an interview with Bollywood Bubble, Jimmy Sheirgill recalled his initial years of glory after the success of his debut film, Mohabbatein. The actor revealed that for at least two years post it, he only used to get solely romantic, chocolate boy roles, which made him desire to do something out of the box. As a result, he returned the signing amount of quite a few filmmakers in his quest to break out of the stereotype. In his words:

“After working a lot for the first two years, I returned the signing amount to a lot of people because I wanted to do something different. Because this chocolate boy thing was a little too much at the time. Everybody would say ‘why? This is amazing’ and I would say ‘no, there is something inside me telling me that this won’t last for more than 2-3 years’. So I knew that I needed to look for… that’s where films like Munna Bhai, Haasil, Yahaan, these films came to me. These gave a different image and never let you get stuck into one particular image.”

“You are a kid, you make mistakes, even I made a few mistakes. Someone brought it up and it went on a little too far. Maybe it was destiny, and it works more than your plans. At that time, I could not even think that I would land in this industry but maybe it was written. You call it a mistake, an incident, or an accident, things happened, and I landed here.”

Jimmy Sheirgill claimed that his experimental attitude led people to take him for granted

Speaking further in the same interview, Jimmy Sheirgill revealed that since he had been quite an experimental actor since the beginning, always looking out for something unique, it on the contrary, led him to be taken for granted by many in the film industry. Talking more about it, he said:

“Main shuru se thoda experimental raha. I have always had the urge of doing something different and did roles that were good even if the screentime was not enough...or even when they were not very meaty and even if the makers did not have enough funds for the actors’ fees. But that created an impression ki ‘arey ye toh free mein bhi kar leta hai’. I guess everybody tries to save money from negotiating and all that and that’s why I wasn’t given as per the amount of efforts I put in.”
