The world is mourning the loss of Judge Frank Caprio, lovingly known as 'America's Nicest Judge'. He passed away at the age of 88 after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. Judge Frank Caprio had rose to global fame through the show, Caught in Providence and spent his final moments surrounded by family. The news was confirmed by his son, who revealed that he died peacefully at 2:15 p.m., leaving behind a legacy defined by compassion, fairness, and family values. Amid this heartbreaking news, let's take a look at his family, who were an actor for the popular judge.
Judge Frank Caprio was born in 1936 into a hardworking Italian-American household. He carried forward the values instilled in him by his parents, Antonio, a milkman and fruit peddler, and Filomena, a homemaker. He was one of three brothers in a close-knit home, raised during the hardships of the Great Depression in Providence's Federal Hill neighborhood. His brother, Antonio, was a teacher, and another brother, Joe, had been the executive producer of Caught in Providence before Frank retired in 2023.
After teaching and doing other jobs, he got married to the love of his life, Joyce, while studying law. They got married in 1965, and the couple had been together for more than 60 years of marriage. Together, they raised five children: Frank T., David, Marissa, John, and Paul. David starred with his father, Frank, in Cooking with the Caprios. The family expanded further with seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, all of whom were a source of joy for the judge in his later years. Two of his sons followed in his footsteps to make a career in law and politics.
Judge Frank Caprio found his soulmate in his wife, Joyce, whom he met while he was in law school. They had been married for more than 60 years with a happily married life. Since Joyce was mostly away from the spotlight, not much is known about her. But Frank often shared pictures and videos from his family life on his social media handle. Expressing gratitude towards Joyce, he once penned:
"My wife has always been the heart of our home, a wonderful mom, and a cook whose meals are made with love, not just ingredients. She doesn't feed the family, she nourishes our souls. I am a lucky man."
Frank Caprio was born in the Italian-American neighborhood of Federal Hill, Providence. He attended the Providence public schools while working as a dishwasher and shoe-shiner. He graduated from Central High School and got a bachelor's degree from Providence College in 1958. After graduating, he began teaching at Hope High School and attended night school at the Suffolk University School of Law in Boston. Frank even served in the Rhode Island Army National Guard from 1954 to 1962 in the 876th Combat Engineer Battalion. He had shared a final video message hours before his demise and said:
