Bollywood actress, Kajol has always had a fond admiration for her mom, Tanuja. She has never denied the same, but there was a time when the actress had a deep connection with the women in her life apart from her mom. Kajol shared a deep and personal anecdote from her childhood that showcased the unconditional love the actress had not just for her mom, Tanuja, but also for the generations of women who raised her up. Kajol was so fond of her great-grandmother that once she ran away from her boarding school, only to be dragged by the nuns.
Kajol has been raised strongly by women who have given her love and made her a rebel. Her great-grandmother had a huge impact on her life, as Kajol sat down for an interview with the Lallantop and recollected the same. She shared of having a deep bond with her great-grandmother, grandmother, mother, and self. During her childhood, Kajol at 11, was studying at a boarding school in Panchgani. She got the news that her great-grandmother was not well, the actress at 11 decided to run away from Panchgani to Mumbai, which was only 5 hours to be next to her great-grandmother. Kajol did manage to get halfway and shared:
"I went to my local guardian, my mama in Panchgani, and I told him that mom has called me home. I asked him to take me to the bus stand," she recounted. But her great escape was cut short. “While I was waiting in the bus, the nuns came, and they pulled me by my ear and took me back to the school."
Kajol had a deep bond with her great-grandmother. She had a matriarchal upbringing during her formative years, and she did not want to distance herself even when her great-grandmother was ill. She had made a strong as well as an emotional plan to run away from the boarding school with her friend, who was also unhappy. They both decided to go to Mumbai as the actress had not got permission from her mom to visit. Kajol remembered:
“I got to know that my maternal grandmother’s mother was very sick. I called my mom, but she didn’t allow me to come back home because I had exams. My holidays were in December, so she asked me to come in December only. I was 11 at that time."
Kajol shared a funny and nostalgic event from her boarding school and revealed of having a lot of fondness for the same. She did credit her Panchgani boarding school for teaching her what it felt like to be independent, resilient and also make a mark in society. Kajol has been so much in love with boarding school that she sent her elder daughter, Nysa, to the same and also wants to send her son, Yug. In her words:
"I like boarding schools, and I sent Nysa also to one. Now, I want to send my son Yug as well to the boarding school."
