Kamal Haasan's Affair With Rekha, His Ex-Wife, Vani Allegedly Caught Them Red Handed In A Hotel Room

Kamal Haasan is regarded as one of the most versatile stars in India. Four-time National Award winner, Kamal started his acting career as a child artist in 1960 and won the President’s Gold Film for the same. Throughout his career, Kamal has given some cult classic films like Moondram Pirai, Nayakan, Indian, Sadma, Chachi 420, Dasavathaaram, Vishwaroopam, Vikram and many more.

Despite being one of the popular actors in Indian cinema, Kamal’s personal life has often been marred with controversies. Be it his public spat with his first wife, Vani Ganapathy, or alleged affairs with the leading ladies of cinema, Kamal is controversy’s favourite child. Kamal Haasan and Rekha’s controversial affair

In 1981, while Rekha was shooting for Yash Chopra’s Silsila, she was signed for a Tamil film titled Meendum Kokila. The film also starred Kamal Haasan and Sridevi. During the making of the film, Rekha and Kamal reportedly got romantically involved, and no one from the set was aware of it.

Kamal Haasan’s wife, Vani Ganapathy got him red-handed with Rekha in a hotel room

All hell broke when Kamal Haasan’s then-wife, Vani Ganapathy, barged into a hotel where the actress was staying. Not only she caught her husband red-handed with Rekha, but also made a scene in front of the guests. A Tamil journalist once reported the incident to Rediff as narrated by a staff of the hotel and wrote:

“In late 1979, I was working at the Hotel Chola Sheraton in Chennai. One night, when I reported for work, I found the place in a tizzy. As the girls in reception told the story, Kamal Haasan and Rekha Ganesan were in the latter’s room in the hotel when Kamal’s then-wife Vani Ganapathy landed up and gave her husband a public dressing down.”

Weeks later, reports surfaced that Rekha was dropped from the project and instead Malayalam actress, Deepa (Unni Mary) was offered the role. Neither Rekha nor Kamal Haasan has ever reacted to the news and with time, it slipped out of the headlines. 

Kamal Haasan cheated Vany Ganapathy for Sarika

Kamal fell in love with dancer, Vani Ganapathy and got married to her in 1978. They reportedly met through a common friend and soon started dating. Since Vani didn’t believe in live-in relationships, the duo soon tied the knot. However, cracks started appearing in their relationship soon.

The veteran actor’s marriage with Vani was not working at that time, hence, he fell attracted towards Sarika on their film sets. Sarika was called the ‘other woman’ in Kamal Haasan and his first wife, Vani Ganapathy’s life. Sarika did try to end their relationship many times as he was a married man, but destiny had other plans. 

Reports of Sarika’s pregnancy made its way to the headlines. Kamal divorced Vani in 1988 and tied the knot with Sarika in the same year. The embraced parenthood with the arrival of Shruti and Akshara, however, their marriage didn’t last long and the duo divorced in 2004.
