In an interview with The Indian Express, Sarika opened up about taking her first sabbatical at 25 years of age and revealed the real reason behind this. She mentioned that it was when she gave birth to her elder daughter, Shruti Haasan in 1986. Praising the women who could manage their work and family together, Sarika mentioned that she wasn't so smart enough to do so and said:
“When I conceived Shruti, I told myself, ‘That’s it from movies now’ because I like to give my 100 percent. My admiration and respect for women who can juggle bringing up a child and their career. I am not that smart. By then, I had worked for so many years. What people start in 20 and finish at 50, I had finished it by the time I was 25. I was not exhausted; I had done it all. I was ready for bringing up kids, focusing on my family.”
Sarika and Kamal's elder daughter, Shruti Haasan also followed in the steps of her parents and entered into the world of glam and glitz. Shruti made her Bollywood debut with the film Ramaiya Vastavaiya, opposite Girish Kumar. In an interview with the Hindustan Times, Shruti had opened up about her relationship with her parents. She also mentioned how she has been financially independent and had shared:
"They continue to be wonderful parents. I am particularly close to my dad. My relationship with my mum is pretty good as well and she is also a part of our lives. It actually panned out for the best. I don't have daddy or mommy helping me, I pay my own bills, so I have no choice but to get back to work when it resumes."

"I was just excited for them to live their own lives. I was glad that they separated as I do not think that two people who are not getting along, should stay together forcefully."
On the professional front, Sarika would be next seen in the Sooraj Barjatya directorial feature film, Uunchai, co-starring Amitabh Bachcha, Boman Irani and Anupam Kher.
