The Korean entertainment world was left shocked and saddened when the news of the untimely passing of the actress, Kang Seo Ha, just at the mere age of 31, reached the world on July 13, 2025. The cause of her death was reported to be stomach cancer. Seo Ha was an actress well appreciated by her fans for her on-screen as well as off-screen presence, and she was a loved name in the Korean drama industry for more than a decade now. She had left a lasting mark on fans and colleagues alike.
Kang Seo Ha was born on June 13, 1994, in Busan, and her birth name was Kang Ye-won. She had always been passionate about acting, which made her to pursue it formally at the prestigious Korea National University of Arts, where she majored in drama. Her passion for acting, combined with her education, helped her become part of many dramas and TV shows.
Kang Seo Ha's first significant appearance in the industry, the one that kickstarted her career, was in 2012, when she appeared in a music video for the Brave Guys for the song Getting Farther Away. She, made her official acting debut two years later in 2014 with JTBC's drama, Seonam Girls' High School Investigators, where she was seen playing a supporting role. However, she was still successfull to showcase her acting ability by bringing emotional depth to her character, with her limited time on screen.
In the years that followed, Kang Seo Ha built herself a strong work profile with appearances and roles in many top-rated dramas such as Assembly, The Flower in Prison, First Love Again, and Through the Waves. She became known for her versatility, and she was seen playing roles across different genres and was effortlessly shifting between period dramas, thrillers, and modern romantic series. She brought something new to the screen with her every project.
Kang Seo Ha earned recognition even beyond Korea for her supporting roles in Heart Surgeons and Nobody Knows in 2019. She was praised for her subtle performances that stood out even when there was a huge ensemble cast. In recent years, she had acted in action dramas like The First Responders, as well as supernatural and psychological thrillers which included, Dark Hole, Possessed, and The Running Mates.

In 2023, Kang Seo Ha signed a contract with the talent agency Insight MCN, it is a new venture formed by the merger of two comapnies, namely Insight Entertainment and Showtime Crew. Her new contract indicates that her career was positioned for further growth. Her final film, In the Net, had completed its shooting shortly before her passing and will be released posthumously now. The film features her alongside actors like Kim Seon-ho and Park Gyu-young. The film will be her last appearance and serve as a farewell to her work.
Details about Kang Seo Ha's illness were kept private during most of the time of her treatment. According to media reports, she had been battling with stage four stomach cancer and was going through multiple rounds of chemotherapy. Her condition became worse and started deteriorating rapidly during the second round of her treatment, but she continued to work quietly despite the toll it was taking on her physical health.
Her sister confirmed the news of her passing through a post on Instagram. She shared a video that captured moments from Seo Ha's life. They showed her strength and kindness even during her sickest days. Her sister wrote:
"I still can't believe it, unnie. Even while enduring such immense pain, you worried about those around you and me. Even though you couldn't eat for months, you insisted on paying for my meals with your card and never let me skip a meal—my angel, who left us far too soon. Even as you endured everything with painkillers, you said you were grateful that it wasn't worse, and I felt humiliated. My dear sister, you went through so much. I hope you are only happy and free from pain where you are now!"
According to a report by SPOTV News, Kang Seo Ha's funeral wake was held at Catholic University of Korea Seoul St. Mary's Hospital, and the service for her will reportedly take place on July 16, 2025. She was laid to rest in her final resting place at Haman, South Gyeongsang Province. The service arranged for her will be attended by close friends, family, and members of the entertainment industry.
Tributes from around the world are pouring across social media platforms for the late actress. Fans are sharing scenes from her dramas, behind-the-scenes photos, and personal memories they shared with her. Many have expressed heartbreak over losing a gifted performer at such a young age.
Fans and K drama lovers believe Kang Seo Ha's work was made special becasue of the depth of emotion she brought to every role, every time she was on the screen.
