Kangana Ranaut's feud with actor-turned-politician, Urmila Matondkar has been going on for years and made quite a number of headlines in 2020. It was back when Urmila made her political debut as a Congress candidate in the 2019 Lok Sabha election from the Mumbai North constituency. However, she resigned from Congress after a short period and joined Shiv Sena in 2020. Following this, Urmila got entangled in a war of words with Kangana, who is set to contest the Lok Sabha election 2024 on a BJP ticket from Mandi, Himachal Pradesh.
In an interview with Times Now in September 2020, Kangana Ranaut sparked controversy when she called Urmila Matondkar a 'soft porn star'. During the interview, Kangana was heard explaining Urmila's derogatory remarks on her. Kangana revealed how the Rangeela actress made fun of her struggles by mentioning that she is trying to appease the BJP party for a ticket to contest the elections then. Further making a controversial statement against Urmila, Kangana said:
“I saw one very derogatory interview given by Urmila Matondkar. The way she was talking about me, pulling faces, making a mockery about my struggles, attacking me on the fact that I am trying to appease BJP for a ticket. One doesn’t have to be a genius to figure that for me it is not very difficult to get a ticket. Urmila is a soft porn star. She is not known for her acting for sure, what is she known for? For doing soft porn right. If she could get a ticket, why wouldn’t I get a ticket?"

Earlier, in an interview, Urmila was asked about the several allegations made by Kangana against the wrongdoers of the film industry. To this, Urmila revealed how Kangana doesn't have the grip of any one language, instead she keeps ranting about such weird things. Moreover, Urmila had called Kangana ‘rudali’. Now, the video was shared on social media by a Reddit user and soon, many other netizens started reacting to it. While some supported the fact that Kangana shouldn't be called so, others mentioned that the term isn't derogatory as the actress indeed suits the comment.

Following her comment on Kangana after she called her 'rudali', Urmila was also ready to apologise to the former. In an interview with Barkha Dutt, Urmila recalled that she called Kangana by such a name as the latter keeps complaining about the mistreatment she has received in the film industry. However, Urmila also mentioned that if Kangana or her fans felt hurt by it, she has ‘absolutely no qualms’ in apologising. She said:
“I said rudali in a certain context, and if at all it was offensive, I have absolutely no qualms in saying I am sorry about it. Maybe not her, maybe the people who support her so dearly. So I am sorry if anything like that has gone out of context. It doesn’t make me small.”

However, in the same conversation, Urmila also explained the context for which she commented on Kangana with such a name. Urmila then mentioned having no regrets for using the word. Following this, Urmila further threw a question towards Kangana and asked her if not a single person ever did any good to her. Urmila added:
“It was used by me in a context. I have not understood why a person constantly chooses to only play a victim card. You and I can also do that. When you have had such a long and lovely career in the industry, which has given you so much, are you trying to say that there was nothing good about it? There was not a single person, day, anything that happened good?”
