Kangana Ranaut has her hands quite full with the promotions of her upcoming movie, Emergency, which is scheduled to be released on September 6, 2024. The actress will play Mrs Indira Gandhi, one of the most powerful women in the Indian political scenario. The actress-turned-politician, who is known for never mincing her words, appeared in an interview recently and spoke at length on how Bollywood is a 'hopeless place'.
Kangana appeared on the latest episode of The Bombay Journey on Mashable India's YouTube channel. During the conversation, the host asked his guest about her stance on boycotting Bollywood and inquired if she boycotted the industry or vice versa. To this, Kangana calmly replied that Bollywood, for lack of better words, is a 'hopeless' place. She discussed that the industry doesn't like talented people, and they try their best to destroy their careers. She was quoted as saying:
"Bollywood is, honestly I am saying, it is a very hopeless place. Kuch nahi hone wala inka. Ek toh talent se ye jalte hain. Jo bhi inko talented dikhta hain na uske piche pad ke ya toh usko khatam kar dete hain unka career barbaad kar dete hain unko boycott kar dete hain. Itna ganda PR kar kar ke unko badnaam karte hain."
When the host suggested that the industry people might be doing such things internally, Kangana emphasised that it's not done internally. She also shared that industry insiders prefer mediocre people who would obey their orders as it's convenient for them. Kangana also said that people can't run the industry according to their convenience.
Furthermore, Kangana discussed that yesteryear's Bollywood actors and directors were modest and down-to-earth people who had seen the harsh realities of life. However, the scenario is not the same at present. The actress shared that people in the industry are now into faction fights, and they all hate talented people. When the host asked if Kangana had always been so fearless and bold, she said:
"Pata nahi logon ko main bebak kyun lagti hun. Main toh sochti hun ki main sabse zyada ek clear perspective rakhne wali ek aam sadharan ladki hun, aur logon ko hai foggy perspective, they don't have clarity of mind, they don't have clarity of thought, they don't know what to say, they don't have guts to speak, what they saw, they assess, the truth, nothing, ab wo log chahte hai main unke tarah banu, ab ghoda gadha kyu banega bhai gadhon ko ghoda banna chahiye."

Previously, during a chat with NBT, Kangana revealed that Sanjay Leela Bhansali approached her to work on a dance number for his film, Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela. The song was eventually offered to Priyanka Chopra. During the conversation, Kangana shared that she disliked how women are portrayed in item songs and, hence, refused to do a dance number. She was quoted as saying:
"Aap dekh lijiye mujhe Sanjay Leela Bhansali ne bhi Ram Leela film jo hai usme item number ke liye bulaya. Sab logo ne mujhe bola yeh paagal hai, Bhansali ko mana kar rahi. I said main nahi kar sakti. Chaahe Bhansali bula le chaahe koi bhi, I can’t do item numbers. Artists need to show such integrity. Women ko aap kaise portray karte hain."
Meanwhile, during the promotional spree for her upcoming film, Emergency, Kangana also revealed that she has rejected films opposite several Bollywood biggies like Salman Khan, Ranbir Kapoor, Akshay Kumar, and more. She discussed that despite refusing to work with the actors, none of them soured their bond with her. The actress also highlighted that in one of her interviews, Salman praised her work in Emergency.
