Kanwaljit Singh Walia has been appearing in small but vital roles in a series of big-budget films and web series in recent years. However, it is Arati Kadav's film, Mrs, in which we saw him in a major role; as expected, he was trending all over the internet. The veteran actor played the character of a patriarchal father-in-law (Diwakar's father) in Mrs that also features Sanya Malhotra (Richa Sharma) and Nishant Dahiya (Diwakar Kumar). The movie is centred around the toxicity in most Indian marriages due to the existence of emotional violence, patriarchal conditioning, and misogynistic men.
Mrs premiered on Zee5 on February 7, 2025, and it has registered the biggest opening on the streaming platform. Not only this, Mrs is also currently the most searched movie of 2025 on Google. Returning to the film's second lead, Kanwaljit Singh portrayed the character of Sanya Malhotra's father-in-law, and he played it so well that people started hating him on social media. The iconic actor received several comments on his Instagram posts, in which people shared how they hated his character so much because it was so real. They also lauded him for his brilliant performance in Mrs.
One user wrote, "How did you manage to make us hate you sir, your acting was top notch, congratulations," another netizen commented, "Sir apne ye kirdaar itne ache se nibhaya tha ki ye movie dekhne ke baad ek din tak to itna gussa aa raha tha ap par! Hats off to you for such brilliant acting." The veteran actor is once again all over the headlines and proved that he still has so much to offer. Before Mrs, Kanwaljit Singh appeared in famous films and web series like Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui, Tribhanga, Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga, Raazi, IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack, Tabbar, Hostages, and many more.
Kanwaljit Singh is one of the most handsome actors in the history of Indian cinema. With a height of more than six feet, he was often compared to Amitabh Bachchan. The actor made his acting debut in Hindi cinema with the film, Shankar Hussain (1977) and went on to work in so many iconic films like Satte Pe Satta, Maachis, Dil Maange More, Mere Brother Ki Dulhan, Raazi, and many more. However, it was his work in the television industry that made him a star across the nation. Some of his iconic TV shows include Aahat, Family No 1, Wajood, Saans, Buniyaad, Abhimaan, and many more.
The iconic actor, Kanwaljit Singh never wanted to be an actor, as he had always wanted to serve in the Indian Air Force. The actor wanted to fly an aircraft and even cleared the UPSC NDA exam. However, he failed the Dehradun medical exam due to a hearing problem in his right ear. He even tried his luck in the Merchant Navy but couldn't make it. One day, he accidentally came across FTII's admission form; Kanwaljit filled it out and sent it. With no aspiration of becoming an actor, he went to Delhi, gave an audition, and was selected to study at FTII, and the rest is history.

Kanwaljit Singh is married to Anooradha Patel, and they are the parents of two sons, Sidarth Singh and Aditya Singh. Anooradha is a renowned actress who made her acting debut in Hindi cinema with the film, Love In Goa. Anooradha is the daughter of Veerendra Patel and Bharati Jaffrey. For the uninitiated, Bharati Jaffrey is the daughter of one of the greatest actors in the history of Indian cinema, Ashok Kumar.
At the peak of his career, Kanwaljit Singh Walia was linked with a series of actresses. There were rumours that he was engaged to Zeenat Aman and getting married to his senior, Waheeda Rehman. In an interview with Siddharth Kannan, Kanwaljit addressed these rumours and labelled them as 'completely false'. The actor revealed that he had never engaged Zeenat Aman. Coming to his marriage rumours with Waheeda Rehman, Kanwaljit shared that it was a mistake by some media publications who confused his name with Waheeda's husband, Kamaljeet.
Besides these two rumours, Kanwaljit Singh was also linked with his Saans co-star and esteemed actress, Neena Gupta. According to several media publications, reports were rife back in the 90s that Kanwaljit and Neena were seeing each other after they developed a close bond while working on the sets of their hit show, Saans.
People were in love with Kanwaljit Singh and Neena Gupta's on-screen chemistry in the show, and as per the gossipmongers, they were experiencing the same feelings for each other off-camera. However, there was no official proof of this. Thus, it could be a hoax like the rest of Kanwaljit's linkup rumours. Fast forward to 2025, and we hope he continues mesmerising us with his acting for years to come.
