Kanye West's documentary, In Whose Name, hit the theatres on September 19, 2025. The film has created a stir on the internet, providing an unvarnished look at the American rapper's life, including his professional journey and personal connections. It chronicled his dynamics with the Kardashians, including his ex-wife, Kim Kardashian and her mother, Kris Jenner. Amid the buzz surrounding the documentary, concerns regarding Kim Kardashian's public image had surfaced.
Kim Kardashian strives hard to maintain a 'perfect image' and tries to keep the media from finding out about her life's low phases. She was terrified of being portrayed in her raw, unfiltered form in Kanye West's documentary, as shared by a source close to her to The U.S. Sun. According to their account, the Skims owner didn't want her personal issues to be revealed to the public in the form of video footage. Thus, Kim Kardashian is dreading the release of Kanye West's documentary, In Whose Name? Reading that, the source stated:
"Kim's biggest nightmare is having something that is deeply personal, like video footage, out there in the world that she has no control over."
Kim Kardashian was worried that Kanye's documentary would expose a 'dark time' of her life and tarnish the reputation she has carefully cultivated over the years. The footage was captured over a period of six years by director Nico Ballesteros, capturing private and raw moments during the time and toward the end of Kim and Kanye's marriage. According to the source, Kim was unhappy with having no control over what content related to her made it into the final cut of the documentary. They shared:
"At the time when the film director was doing all the footage, following Kanye around, it was a really dark time in her life. In the distraction of everything that followed, it's like she had forgotten the 'teenager' who had the camera stuck to him 24/7 - and she had always assumed that there was no way Kanye would just let it get this far."
Many might wonder why Kim Kardashian was so touchy about Kanye's documentary's content, considering she herself stars in a TV series about her family life, Keeping Up With the Kardashians. That is because she has creative control in her own show, while in Kanye's documentary, she had no say in its editing. In Keeping Up, Kim's brief marriage and highly publicised divorce from basketball player, Kris Humphries, was chronicled; however, only that bit was shown, which she felt was appropriate to be shared with the world.
In the documentary, In Whose Name?, Kim Kardashian warned Kanye West that he would one day 'wake up and have nothing' if he continued his pattern of dramatic behaviour and 'burning bridges.' The film captured a heated phone call from 2018, following Kanye's controversial visit to the White House to meet with US President, Donald Trump. She pointed out that his personality had changed drastically over the years and that he no longer had to resort to tantrums when things didn't go his way.

She begged him to stop alienating his partners in the entertainment and fashion industries. This conversation occurred around the time he was dropped by his talent agent. The call also featured a tense exchange where West compared his music and work to being a 'slave' to companies like Universal and the E! network. Kardashian pushed back, saying that having a job doesn't make someone an enslaved person and that it was demeaning to people who are truly enslaved. Kanye refused to listen to her and asked her not to say things like that, stating:
"Never tell me I'm gonna wake up one day and have nothing. Never put that into the universe".
