Karan Johar is one of the most well-known filmmakers in Bollywood. He has worked as a director, actor, talk show host, and reality TV show judge, among other roles. Karan has made several successful films and owns Dharma Productions, one of the most successful Production companies in Bollywood. Karan is the father of twins, Yash and Roohi. Recently, he shared how being a single parent has been a difficult journey.
Recently, Karan Johar sat down for an interview with journalist, Faye D'Souza on her YouTube channel. In the interview, he talked about his challenges as a single parent. For the unversed, Karan Johar welcomed his twins via surrogacy in 2017. Karan is a single parent who looks after his kids with his mother, Hiroo. However, the latter herself is 81-year-old. Karan revealed that now his kids have begun asking questions about their birth and their mother. However, he isn't sure how to answer it for them. He was quoted as saying:
"It is a modern family. It is an unusual circumstance, so now I am also dealing with the questions about 'whose stomach was I born in? But mumma is not mumma really, she is my grandmother."

Karan Johar added that to answer the questions, he is going to their school and meeting a counsellor for the necessary guidance on the issue. He is seeking professional help to deal with this situation. The Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani filmmaker said that being a parent has been difficult for him.
Karan Johar has often opened up about facing issues related to insecurities regarding his looks and personality. He shared in the interview that he projected his insecurities on his son. Karan recalled one incident where he said something insensitive to his children due to it. Sharing the incident, Karan said:
"When I see my son consuming sugar and I see he has put on more weight, then I am so paranoid for him. I said 'Yash, you have put on weight'. Like I said it this time. We were on a holiday and I said it. And then I went to my room and said, 'Why did you do that?' I went outside and I hugged him and I said, 'I am really sorry, you eat what you want.'"

Karan Johar has been a successful filmmaker, and most of his films as a director have been box office hits. However, when he was a child, his parents told him to be like other boys his age. The My Name is Khan director said that society was not open-minded enough to accept children like him for who they are when he was a kid. He expressed that he often asks his son to play cricket or football like other kids that he didn't do as a kid. However, he has decided not to be that kind of parent now. In his words:
"But I shouldn't be this parent. I want my kid to be an individual of his own choice, my daughter and my son both."
