Karan Johar made a comeback to cinema as a director after seven years with his recently released film, Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani. Post its release on July 28, 2023, the film has been garnering a lot of responses from all over the country. From audiences reacting to the thrilling dance numbers, to them loving the talented acting chops of all the ensemble cast, the film has been hitting the headlines every now and then. However, recently, the film got pointed out for the most wrong reasons, and netizens are penning their views on the same.
Recently, a user on Reddit started a thread on the discussion platform, which was titled ‘Can we stop normalizing adultery!’. The user shared a still from the film, RARKPK that featured the veteran actors, Dharmendra and Shabana Azmi sharing a moment with one another. For the unversed, according to many user reviews, the characters portrayed by Dharmendra and Shabana Azmi in the film are introduced as ex-lovers, both of whom had undergone tumultuous and unhappy marriages. However, as the film progresses, the duo, who have aged now, are shown towards a union, and even share a passionate kiss.

However, speaking along the same lines, the user expressed how Karan Johar has attempted to normalise adultery in real-life relationships through the character track of both Dharmendra and Shabana Azmi. The user wrote:
“Karan Johar and his obsession with infidelity is sickening! Please don’t watch #RockyAurRaniKiiPremKahaani if you’re triggered by adultery. This movie has not only glorified but also JUSTIFIED infidelity! Cheating is never okay, no matter how unhappy you are in your relationship.”
As soon as the post was shared, several netizens took to the comment section and started expressing their views on the same. While there were a few users who felt that the filmmaker only wanted to uphold the realities of modern relationships at the moment, there was yet a significant section of netizens who felt otherwise. A user commented, ‘What else do you expect from KJo and oggywood?’. Another comment can be read as, ‘It has become a trend now. According to these movies, one person has to cheat on their partner in order to find true love’. Yet another netizen expressed, ‘Let’s normalise that adulatory exists along with fidelity. Films like KKHH and K3G give unrealistic views on love and family values'.

Another point of highlight that has been making the film, Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani hit all the headlines was due to the passionate kissing scene between Shabana Azmi and Dharmendra. While the audience felt that the scene was totally unexpected, others also began to criticise the veteran actors for doing such a scene at their age. However, when Shabana Azmi was asked about her take on the buzz about the particular scene, she reacted as:
“I never thought it would create such a fuss! People are laughing and cheering when we do the kiss. While shooting it was never an issue. It is true that I haven’t kissed much on screen before. But who wouldn’t want to kiss a man as handsome as Dharmendra?”
