'Bigg Boss 18' Winner, Karan Veer Mehra Opens Up About His 'Dyslexia' Diagnosis, 'I Struggled..'

Karan Veer Mehra, a popular actor in the Television industry, has been dominating headlines for months. In October 2024, the actor began his journey in the reality TV show, Bigg Boss 18 and took the prestigious trophy home on January 19, 2025. Throughout this period, different aspects of his personal and professional life have been highlighted in the media. At the same time, his inspiring journey to victory has earned him a lot of fans. In a recent interview, Karan opened up about how he was diagnosed with dyslexia as a kid and how his mother played an important role in helping him cope with his challenges. For those unaware, Dyslexia is a learning disability. It's usually characterised by reading disability in children. 

Karan Veer Mehra reveals his dyslexia wasn't diagnosed for a long time 

After a spectacular win in Bigg Boss 18, Karan Veer Mehra sat down for an interview with Telly Talk. He recounted a memory from his childhood and stated that since childhood, his sister used to score better marks in her studies while he struggled. Despite that, his mother never compared them, and it made him learn to focus on his achievements rather than anyone else. Although, much later, he was diagnosed with dyslexia which explained his academic struggles. In his words: 

"My sister and I have been taught to focus on our own achievements. You'll see our home filled with medals from various extracurricular activities, dramatics, sports, and academics. My sister was excellent in her studies, whereas I struggled. I was dyslexic, which wasn't diagnosed until much later."

He continued to explain that his academic struggle continued for a long time. However, during the summer break before his class 10th exams, his mother sat down and read his books to him. Later, she found that Karan could answer all the questions despite his previous poor performances, and she understood the nature of his struggles. Karan Veer Mehra recalled: 

"She arranged for tuition classes for me in math and accounts. And surprisingly, I scored 72% in my tenth standard exams. It was a shock for everyone at home. My mom realized that I had a problem with reading, not understanding."

Karan Veer Mehra, who dealt with the same condition, mentioned that he watched the film, and it gave him proper clarity on his struggles. Moreover, his mother was left emotional since the film showcased similar challenges she witnessed him face as a kid.

Karan Veer Mehra mentioned he would use Bigg Boss 18 prize money to fund the education of his employees' kids

After Bigg Boss 18 ended, Karan made several important confessions from his personal life and shed some light on his future plans in his interviews. In one such interview with Midday, the actor mentioned his plans to use his massive Rs. 50 lakh prize money to fund the education of his employee's children. His announcement won him a lot of appreciation from his fans and netizens alike.
