Bollywood actress, Kareena Kapoor Khan remembered her grandfather at the inaugural ceremony of the World Audio Visual and Entertainment Summit (WAVES) 2025. It took place at the Jio World Convention Centre, Mumbai. Kareena was seen with Vijay Devarakonda, and she took part in a session called Cinema- The Soft Power. During the second day of the summit. Karan Johar moderated it, and Kareena revealed her experience of how a cab driver sang her dada ji, Raj Kapoor's song, to her in Hindi.
Karan Johar, who was in the panel discussion, started by speaking about the global impact that cinema had on it and how the North and South cinema could shape the cinematic future. It was here that Kareena revealed of once been in a taxi in London, and the cab driver was a local. He started singing her grandfather's songs to her because he had watched all of Raj Kapoor's films. Kareena revealed:
"He was like I have seen his films and I can't believe that you are sitting here and he actually sang in Hindi language. He sung Mera Joota Hai Japani. I think for me that was a really great moment and pride because he also sang it so clearly in our Hindi bhasha. I felt look at the impact, what is happening. He actually made me realise the kind of love that we as a nation our films are getting and the way people are watching it. I think dadaji's film was quiet old in the 50s."
When Karan Johar further asked Kareena why she never ran after Hollywood while her contemporary stars put in efforts, the actress revealed that chasing was never a part of her personality. If it has to happen, it will happen. She does know that times have changed, and one time a Hindi-English movie could also take place.
Kareena going ahead also revealed of meeting Steven Spielberg and shared that even he has been watching Hindi movies. Kareena shared that she was travelling somewhere and at a restaurant, and Steven Spielberg was also there. This was many moons ago, 3 Idiots had just been released. And he came up to her and asked, 'Are you the same girl who is in that famous Indian film where three students study together?' Kareena said yes, that she was the same girl. In her words:
"He told me that he loved the film. I don't have to act in an English film for him to see me. He watched '3 Idiots', so that is our moment in Indian cinema."
Kareena, going ahead in the interview, also revealed that movies are a passion to her and films run in her blood. She was into this family. So, never say never, but chasing something was never a part of who she was. The actress also noted that initially people used to like watching movies in dubbed languages, and now they kind of watch in their native language. Kareena, who is a mother to Taimur and Jeh Ali Khan, also noted that movies now in the current era have had a phenomenal global impact worldwide.
