Just like her professional front, Sharmila Tagore aced every role of her personal life with grace. Sharmila Tagore is deeply loved, adored and respected by her children, Saif Ali Khan, Saba Ali Khan and Soha Ali Khan, daughter-in-law and son-in-law, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Kunal Kemmu, and super-adorable grandchildren, Sara Ali Khan, Ibrahim Ali Khan, Taimur Ali Khan, Inaaya Naumi Kemmu and the newborn. It was in February 2021 when Kareena and Saif had welcomed their second child but they have kept the little one guarded from the limelight. In a video message, Kareena revealed if Sharmila Tagore has met the newborn or not.
Sharmila Tagore, in a conversation with Diya Jaiswal, who is the President of Ladies Study Group, spoke about her Safar in the film industry. For a special segment, Sharmila Tagore was surprised with video messages from her daughter, Saba Ali Khan and daughter-in-law, Kareena Kapoor Khan. Revealing why she always gets nervous when asked to say something about her mother-in-law, Kareena remarked, "I always get nervous when people ask me to talk about you. When it comes to talking about such an icon, such a legend, what is there that I can say, The whole world knows that my mother-in-law, who I'm lucky to call my mother-in-law, is one of the most elegant, one of the most graceful women to have walked the earth."

Speaking highly of her mother-in-law and how she made her feel a part of the Pataudi family, Kareena Kapoor Khan said, "I'm lucky enough to know deeper than that which is that, she's warm, loving, she's caring. Someone who is always there not just for her children but also for her grandchildren and also for her daughter-in-law. Somebody who has always been so inclusive of me, who made me feel part of this family." Revealing that the newborn is yet to meet his grandmother, Sharmila Tagore, Kareena said, "I have deep, deep respect and regard for you and I think the fact that this whole year has gone by where we've not been able to spend as much time as we did before the pandemic. You've not been able to see the little one, the new addition to the family. But we're waiting to actually come together as a family, spend some time with you."

To wish 'one of the most coolest and strongest women' she knows, Kareena had captioned Sharmila Tagore's picture as "To one of the most coolest and strongest women I know... happy birthday my beautiful mother-in-law."
Sharmila Tagore is not just an inspiration for her unconventional choices on the professional front, but she has set the benchmark of a mother-in-law and daughter-in-law relationship very high with her bond with bahu, Kareena Kapoor Khan. Breaking the stereotypes surrounding the saas-bahu relationship, in an interview with a leading media portal, Kareena had praised her mother-in-law and was quoted as saying, "When I am with the family, I am treated like a daughter. Sharmila ji treats me like a daughter. We are not in the 1900s. We don't live like traditional saas bahus. We just went to the Maldives for a holiday where I wore a bikini in front of my mother-in-law. It's normal. I don't understand why it's such a big thing. I would do the same with my mother."
