Well, apart from the highly illustrious recognition of Vikram Batra for his sacrifice for the nation, he was also a committed person in his personal life to his fiancee, Dimple Cheema. The duo had met each other during their years at Punjab University in 1995. After getting to know one another, the duo started dating and fell head-over-heels in love with one another. After spending some memorable months with one another, Vikram shifted to Dehradun a year later, as he was selected for the Indian Military Academy. Both Vikram and Dimple continued their distanced relationship, and it eventually strengthened their bonding. They even met one another whenever Vikram would come back to Chandigarh. In an interview with The Quint, Dimple Cheema had spoken about those golden days and had mentioned:
“I met Vikram for the first time in 1995 in Punjab University in Chandigarh when we both had joined MA English. But as fate would have it, neither of us completed it. I guess it was destiny playing its part in bringing us together and becoming an integral part of each other."

Well, throughout the years when Vikram was away in his training at the IMA, Dimple had to keep up her faith in her love for the former. Moreover, she had to also deal with the constant pressures of her family to settle down in marriage. Nevertheless, every time they spoke about it, she shut them down with her commitment and dedication towards Vikram. In fact, Vikram had even told Dimple that if she should feel stressed regarding her future, she should instead take good care of the things she liked, or she would be forced to like the things she got.
There was once a momentous occasion in the love story of Dimple and Vikram, right before the latter went off for the Kargil war. It surely had sealed their relationship with the mark of forever. Not just filling her maang with his blood, Vikram had even made another special gesture to mark his love with Dimple to last forever. In the same interview with The Quint, Dimple recalled that Vikram had walked behind her holding her dupatta at the Gurudwara Sri Nada Sahab and had completed four rounds of parikrama like that. She mentioned:
“While doing a parikrama, he was walking behind me. On completing the parikrama, he suddenly said, Congratulations, Mrs Batra. Didn't you realise that this is the fourth time that we are doing this parikrama? It left me totally speechless. That was the level of dedication he had towards our relationship."
Eventually, in the end, the duo had decided that they would formally get married once Vikram would be back from the Kargil war in 1999. However, this promise was left incomplete after Vikram’s death on the battlefield. After him, Dimple had decided to never marry in her life and continue to live with Vikram’s memories. Even today, she resides in Chandigarh, a city which still reverberates the memories she and Vikram had made in their years of togetherness.
