Karisma Kapoor has always been known for her discipline on set. The actress is one of the most beloved stars in the film industry, despite being away from the big screen for years. However, recently, costume designer, Ashley Rebello, has shared some behind-the-scenes moments from his experience while working with Karisma, which sheds new light on just how committed she was during her 1990s peak. The designer recalled an incident from Biwi No 1, unseen by the audience, but it also showed the level of physical discomfort she had to endure without a single complaint.
In a recent conversation with Galatta India, Ashley Rebello recalled the moment he noticed blood on her costume. The costume designer revealed that he had created a striking metal dress for a song in Biwi No 1, which ended up hurting Karisma mid-performance. However, the actress continued dancing, and he suddenly realised something was wrong. He shared that the metal had pricked her skin, and Karisma was bleeding throughout. He was quoted as saying:
"We were doing a song in Biwi No 1 where I gave Karisma a metal dress, and while she was doing her steps, the metal pricked her, and she was bleeding throughout. I spotted red coming on to the gold dress."

In the same conversation, Ashley Rebello revealed that once everyone realised that Karisma Kapoor was injured, the shoot came to a halt. However, the actress was committed to her performance and refused to delay the film. Ashley shared that Karisma insisted that they continue the filming despite the choreographer's polite suggestion to return the next day.

Ashley Rebello revealed that Karisma Kapoor chose to push through the discomfort and the pain. He shared that Karisma was extremely professional and refused to delay the film, even though everyone was already there. He recalled making changes to the dress the next day so that the actress wouldn't get hurt any further. To prevent future injuries, the team added a bandage beneath the dress and covered it with a skin-coloured fabric before placing the metal outfit back on. He was quoted as saying:
"Karisma said no, it’s a full set. Such a professional person…we shot, and we finished the whole thing, and then I changed the outfit the next day."

In the same conversation, Ashley Rebello revealed that what surprised him most was Karisma Kapoor's reaction when he asked why she hadn't alerted anyone earlier. The costume designer recalled that the actress was so dedicated to the art that she didn't even notice that she was uncomfortable in the dress or that it was pricking on her skin. He was quoted as saying:
