Karisma Kapoor Breaks Down Into Tears After A Contestant In 'Indian Idol' Paid Tribute To Raj Kapoor

As a contestant paid tribute to Raj Kapoor's iconic character of 'Raju' from the film, 'Mera Naam Joker', Karisma Kapoor broke down into tears and was heard revealing her emotional feelings.

Karisma Kapoor is the daughter of Randhir Kapoor and granddaughter of ace actor, film director and producer, Raj Kapoor. Ahead of Karishma, no ladies from their khandan ever entered into the film business. Even the actresses, including Karisma's mother, Babita Kapoor and others, who got married to the family, also left their careers behind for the sake of the family. However, Karisma crafted a niche for herself and paved the way for the other women in her family, including Kareena Kapoor and Alia Bhatt, to be part of the entertainment industry.

Time and again, Karisma Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor have been heard praising their parents and grandparents for their contribution to the film industry and their lives. Moreover, Karisma and Kareena's social media posts and statements in various interviews reveal their love and respect for their family. Once again, when a contestant on the singing reality show, Indian Idol, paid tribute to Karisma's grandfather, Raj Kapoor, the actress broke down into tears. It happened in the latest episode of the show, wherein she would appear as a guest.

In a video shared by Sony TV's official IG handle, we could spot Mahima Choudhary putting her voice in the popular song, Jeena Yahan Marna Yahan, from Raj Kapoor's 1970 film, Mera Naam Joker. For the unversed, Raj produced, directed and starred in the film, and it took more than six years to complete. However, post its release, it became one of the iconic films of the era. Thus, Mahima's performance moved Karisma and she was heard saying, “Ye gaane ke jo shabd hain is what we are.” Afterwards, even though she tried hard to control her tears, she broke down and added, “Jo bhi hum hain aaj is thanks to this great man.” Even judge, Shreya Ghoshal was seen getting emotional.

When Karisma Kapoor revealed that her grandfather, Raj Kapoor, would pull women by their hair during the shooting of her film, Raja Hindustani

Earlier, in an interview with Lehren Retro, famous director Dharmesh Darshan revealed a shocking detail about Raj Kapoor, which Karisma told him. Dharmesh narrated that when he was shooting for a song in the film, Raja Hindustani alongside Karisma, there was a scene where Aamir was supposed to pull her hair. However, Aamir wasn't in favour of shooting the scene. Thus, he had suggested that he would pull her by her arm instead. But it was Karisma, who insisted they shoot the scene as planned and gave her grandfather, Raj Kapoor's example. She also revealed that she witnessed Raj pull women's hair in real life. The director was quoted as saying: 

"She took me to a corner. She requested we do it. She said, ‘I’ve seen my grandfather do it sometimes. Forget his films. In real life.' When she told me that, I went to Aamir and said, ‘No one take this, one take that. Just straight up pull her hair'."

Raj Kapoor's personal life

Raj Kapoor was married to Krishna Raj Kapoor. However, time and again, he was linked to many actresses with whom he worked. In a documentary about his life produced by Prasar Bharti, Raj had addressed the rumours of his relationship with his wife, Krishna Raj Kapoor and legendary actress, Nargis, with whom he worked on 18 films. He explained how 'nobody cheated anybody'. Talking about the same, Raj Kapoor revealed:

"Right from the very beginning, from the word go, I drew a line. And it’s a very, very straight fact that my wife is not my actress, and my actress is not my wife. By my wife, I mean the mother of my children. So, my home life, somewhere or the other, was there. Krishna was the mother of my children. While here was my actress. She would share, and have that satisfaction of having contributed to my creativity. That is her satisfaction."

On the work front, Karisma was last seen in the web series, Mentalhood in 2020. She will be seen next in Murder Mubarak, co-starring Sara Ali Khan and has Abhinay Deo's web series, Brown in the pipeline.
