As the youngest person ever to hold the position of White House Press Secretary, Karoline Leavitt has drawn a lot of attention. She has also been a firm supporter of the US government's Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency, which has been enforcing a crackdown on immigrants living in the USA. However, as per recent reports, Karoline's close family member has now been affected by the actions of ICE.
Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt's nephew's mother has been arrested by the federal agency, reportedly. However, Karoline's brother wasn't married to her. Amid this, here's what we know about the situation and the press secretary's young nephew's family dynamics.
Karoline Leavitt's brother, Michael, and Bruna Ferreira share a son. He is named Michael Leavitt Jr. and is 11 years old. Michael and Bruna co-parent but aren't together. The Department of Homeland Security confirmed that Bruna Ferreira was detained for supposedly being an 'illegal' immigrant from Brazil. As per the official statement, she had a 'previous arrest for battery'. According to reports, Bruna entered the US with a tourist visa and should have left the country by June 6, 1999. The US Sun reported that Bruna is a Boston resident who arrived in the US as a child with her family from Brazil. The official statement by the Department of Homeland Security read:
“ICE arrested Bruna Caroline Ferreira, a criminal illegal alien from Brazil. She has a previous arrest for battery. She entered the US on a B2 tourist visa that required her to depart the US by 6 June 1999. She is currently at the South Louisiana ICE Processing Center and is in removal proceedings.”

Meanwhile, the Boston Globe's report suggested that Bruna was on her way to pick up her son, Michael Jr., from school when she was detained by ICE. Several reports also state that she could face deportation. Bruna's sister, Graziela Rodrigues, shared with the same outlet:
“I’m sure my sister was terrified, frantic. She’s been here since she was six years old. She’s more American than she is anything else. I’m sure she tried to just use whatever she could come up with in the moment. However, it didn’t really help very much.”
