Kartik Aaryan is one such actor in the industry, who has made a name for himself despite being a complete outsider. He made his acting debut in a lead role in the romantic comedy film, Pyaar Ka Punchnama, released in 2011. Since then, he has worked in a number of films and kept mesmerising his fans. However, once, there were reports that he walked out of Dostana 2 after having a fallout with the film's director, Karan Johar.
The reports started surfacing on the internet in 2021 when the actor, Kartik Aaryan, walked out of the film, Dostana 2, owing to his creative differences with the film's producer, Karan Johar. Earlier, it was reported that KJo's Dharma Productions has signed Kartik Aaryan alongside Janhvi Kapoor and Laksh Lalwani in the film's lead roles. Even fans were eagerly awaiting the film’s release. Not only that, once in an interview, Janhvi even mentioned that they shot for that film for about 30 to 35 days. However, in a shocking turn of events, the production house announced that the star cast would be reconsidered. However, while releasing a statement shared by Dharma Productions on April 16, 2021, they mentioned maintaining a dignified silence on the same.

Now, in a candid conversation with Lallantop, Kartik broke his silence about his creative differences with KJo that led to his dispersal from the movie. The Shehzada actor said that although the news is quite stale now, he would like to maintain his silence just like earlier. However, Kartik clarified that there is often miscommunication when something is written about Bollywood stars, which sounds completely different from what is actually spoken or happened. Revealing that he is 100 percent focused on his work, Kartik shared:
“Dekhiye, woh boht purani baat ho gayi. Kai bar bahut miscommunication hota hai aur kai bar bahot cheezein out of proportion bhi chali jati hai aur sepcifically jab voh likha jata hai to voh sound kuch aur karta hai. Main tab bhi silent tha and ab bhi silent hoon un baaton pe. Main bas 100 pratishat kam karta huin, lekin jab bhi aise koi khabar aati hai ya koi controversy aa jati hai to main apne shell mein rehta huin, main shant rehta huin. Main un cheezon mein zyada ghusta nahi hoon, aur naa kuch prove karne se mujhe kuch milta hai.”
In another interview with The Indian Express, Kartik once mentioned that the reports have made a mountain out of a molehill. Referring to the alleged fallout between him and Karan Johar, the actor mentioned that he is instead keeping his complete focus on his work. Kartik stated:
“What happens, at times, is people make baat ka batangad. There is nothing more to it. No one has so much time. Everybody just wants to work, and do good work. Other than that, things are just rumours.”

Earlier, when KJo appeared at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne 2023, he was heard praising Kartik’s contribution to cinema. The ace filmmaker-turned-producer wished more power to the actor and that Kartik continues to make his contribution to the cinema. In KJo's words:
“Kartik’s films have deeply resonated with the country and have always brought so much fervour back to the cinema halls. More power to him. May his contribution to cinema always continue. Well done, Kartik.”
Reportedly, Karan and Kartik have let the bygones be bygones and yet again collaborated on an untitled film, which will be directed by Sandeep Modi and will be released in theatres on August 15, 2025.
