Kathryn Bigelow's Love Life: Divorced 'Avatar's, James Cameron, Broke Up With Journalist Mark Boals

Director, Kathryn Bigelow is back with a military-industrial thriller, A House of Dynamite, which has aired on Netflix. For the unversed, Kathryn was born in San Carlos, California, on November 27, 1951, and carved out a career as a painter before entering movies. She has risen to the top when it comes to Kathryn's career in Hollywood, she has risen to the top. Well, today she is a multiple award-winning film director and is also one of the biggest of her time.

Well, back in the '70s, Kathryn was a contemporary painter, but she felt that something was missing and wanted to do. Kathryn then started off doing a few movies, projects, and soon stepped into directing. She set the bar high, broke stereotypes for many female directors, fell in love, and married Avatar director, James Cameron. However, the pair divorced, and then she fell in love with Mark Boal, which also went kaput. Kathryn may have had a successful stint in directing movies, but not with her relationships.

Kathryn Bigelow married James Cameron, as both were passionate about work

Kathryn was the first woman to make history by winning the Best Director Oscar. However, way before that, she married James, who had been married twice before he met her in 1989. James was not ready to give up on love and developed a liking for her. He loved her because she was also committed to her craft, as he was. Sadly, what looked like romance in the starting soon became the reason for the duo to end their relationship. It is said that James and Kathryn were both immersed in work, and that was the reason why their relationship suffered. It was in 1991, a few weeks before Cameron's Terminator 2 came out, that he and Kathryn got separated and have remained friends ever since.

When James Cameron shared that he was happy that his ex-wife, Kathryn Bigelow, won an Oscar

Kathryn had defeated her ex-husband, James, by bagging the best director award. Even James' high-budgeted 3D movie, Avatar, was nominated. At one point, their love story began in two weeks, and they worked on Point Breaker, which Cameron produced and Kathryn directed. However, when she won an Oscar for The Hurt Locker, James said he was happy about how things had panned out. In a media statement, he had shared:

"I would submit after the fact that she probably enjoyed the evening about 10 per cent more than I did. Ha ha. But for me to begrudge not only someone that I’ve loved and believed in winning the best director, but also the first woman... f***, man. Stand back. Let her have her night. We talked about it endlessly before and after. They wanted us to be co-presenters, but we looked at one another and said, 'We’re not going to play that game."

Kathryn Bigelow had credited her ex-husband, James Cameron, for her Oscar win

Kathryn, in an old press statement, had shared that her ex-husband had encouraged her to pursue the story of The Hurt Locker. She shared that he had helped her in making the decision to start this project and credited him for the Oscars. Her movie about a US bomb-disposal squad in Iraq won six Oscars, beating Avatar, which won three.

Kathryn Bigelow's rumoured relationship with Mark Boals

After Kathryn separated from James, she was reportedly known for her long relationship with journalist and screenwriter, Mark. Reportedly, their bond began when they collaborated on The Hurt Locker. Mark's background as a war correspondent, along with his screenplay work for the movie, matched Kathryn's interest in human endurance and also war-based conflict.

Kathryn Bigelow and Mark Boal didn't announce their public breakup

From a professional, they had a personal relationship. Mark made many contributions to the screenplays of Kathryn's movies, and their pairing became a talking point after The Hurt Locker won major awards. He had also written and produced Zero Dark Thirty, while Kathryn had directed it. However, in December 2012, reports did the rounds that they were not together and kept quiet about the same.
