Kim Faces Backlash As Her Daughter, North, Debuts Finger Piercing At 12, Netizens Say, 'Too Young..'

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West's eldest daughter, North, often finds herself at the center of the headlines. Whether it is her statements, viral TikTok videos, fashion choices, or musical ambitions, every move by the 12-year-old makes headlines. She is analysed, praised, and criticised all at once. Recently, her latest online video has once again triggered a new controversy as netizens feel she is ‘too young’ to have her unique form of self-expression. 

North West flaunts finger piercings on the internet

The recent controversy began when North shared some photos on her TikTok account that she shares with her mom, Kim Kardashian. In some of the images, she proudly showed off her two dermal piercings, including a dual dermal piercing on her right middle finger and a blue gem piercing on her left middle finger. The photos soon became a subject of discussion, and other platforms, suchsuch as The U.S. Sun, revealed that NorthNorth had previously shared those dual piercings, but the one with the blue gem was new.

On Reddit, some netizens admired her bold look and defended her freedom of choice, while many others criticized her decision. Among several conversations that took place online, netizens judged Kim's decision as a moment to let her 12-year-old daughter get dermal piercings. One user penned, “Maybe it's the nurse in me, but I hope she washes her hands well after using the bathroom. Seems like an easy spot to get infected.” Another netizen compared North with another popular starkid, Beyonce's daughter, Blue Ivy, and commented, “Blue Ivy could never.’ A user who felt the piercings were not safe wrote:

 “Yeah, no. There's nothing wrong with letting her express herself through fun hair colors, fake piercings, and so on. But she is WAY too young to have a surface finger piercing. That's not a safe piercing even for an adult to heal, let alone a kid.”

Kim Kardashian had earlier opened up about the criticism around her daughter's fashion choices

It is not the first time that netizens called out North West for her fashion choices. Previously, her choice to wear a corset and long boots for a gothic look received equal backlash from the netizens. When a TikTok content creator shared a video criticizing North's appearance, Kim responded directly in the comments, writing, “This is such a non-issue” and adding some crying emojis. According to Poprant, Kim had accepted she made a mistake as a new teen mom in front of the world, but clarified how North was simply experimenting with temporary tattoos and accessories.

However, Kim Kardashian's ex-husband and North West's father, Kanye, does not share the same opinion. Some sources told Globe that Kanye believes North is ‘too young’ to be parading around like this, and allegedly threatened legal action against Kim. He had previously accused Kim of ‘s**ualising their daughter creating further tensions between him and Kim.

North West was born in 2013 and has been in the public eye since birth. Her birth and early life featured in Keeping Up With The Kardashians, and she has made appearances at major events. Additionally, she has been open about her personal struggles, such as Dyslexia, that she shared during a TikTok livestream in 2024. Despite that, she is busy pursuing her creative projects, such as performing at a Yeezy show in Paris to headlining the The Lion King performance at Hollywood Bowl. Moreover, she is currently working on her first album, The Elementary School Dropout, with her father, Kanye West, where her mother, Kim Kardashian, is proudly managing her as a ‘momager’.
