On November 21, 2023, King Charles and Queen Camilla of the British Royal Family held a grand dinner at Buckingham Palace to honour the state visit of South Korean President, Yoon Suk Yeol and First Lady, Kim Keon Hee to the United Kingdom. Among around 170 special invitees, the K-pop girl group, BLACKPINK, British PM, Rishi Sunak and his wife, were also present at the royal celebrations.
The four Korean glam girls, Jisoo, Jennie, Lisa and Rose, received a warm welcome and praise from the King himself. BLACKPINK attended the South Korea-UK state banquet as they are the ambassadors for COP 26 and are supporters of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Each and every member of the K-pop group looked elegant and drop-dead gorgeous in their regal gowns.

King Charles welcomed his guests for the night with an address in Korean language. He touched upon the topic of South Korea’s sustainability goals and praised the relationship between South Korea and Great Britain. King Charles also praised Korea’s younger generation for their inspiring sustainability strides and appreciated the work of BLACKPINK. He further added:
“I applaud Jennie, Jisoo, Lisa and Rose, better known collectively as BLACKPINK, for their role in bringing the message of environmental sustainability to a global audience as Ambassadors for the U.K.’s Presidency of COP 26, and later as advocates for the U.N. Sustainable Development Goals. I can only admire how they can prioritise these vital issues, as well as being global superstars.”

King Charles also highlighted in his speech that when he visited Seoul last time, he did not develop much of ‘Gangnam Style’, a song by K-pop idol, Psy. He said this with reference to his visit to South Korea’s capital in 1992 with the late Princess Diana. He said:
“Sadly, when I was in Seoul all those years ago, I am not sure I developed much of what might be called the Gangnam Style!”
The King praised Korea's 'remarkable journey' and 'artistic creativity', calling it a miracle. He compared James Bond with Netflix’s thriller K-Drama, Squid Game and the English rock band, The Beatles, with the South Korean boy band, BTS. He said:
"Korea has matched Danny Boyle with Bong Joon-ho, James Bond with Squid Game and the Beatles' 'Let It Be' with BTS’s 'Dynamite'. Our cultures share a remarkable ability to captivate imaginations across the world, transforming a so-called soft power into a shared superpower."
