Popular Bollywood actor, Aamir Khan has been married twice. First, he married Reena Dutta in 1986, and after separating from her in 2002, he married Kiran Rao in 2005. Unfortunately, after 16 years of marriage, they parted ways in 2021. But the 59-year-old actor shares a cordial bond with both his ex-wives, which often becomes the talk of the town. In a recent interview, Kiran Rao opened up about their unique bond.
Aamir and Kiran not only co-parent their only son, Azad, but they also work together. Their most recent release, Laapataa Ladies, which was produced by Aamir and directed by Kiran, received much love and appreciation from the audience for its simplistic and engaging storyline. While interacting with Faye D'Souza, the filmmaker answered why she's still friends with her ex-husband even after divorcing him, a question that even her parents have asked. She said:

"I suppose I was very keen to having my space to myself and feeling independent again. We have a strong equation as co-parents, as family really, to survive the divorce. I'd be able to have individual time to myself with the comfort of knowing that Azad's dad is also my friend, is also family. It took me a while to get there mentally, emotionally. Even for Aamir. We needed to be secure in the fact that we're not going anywhere. We're there for each other for the long term. It's just that we don't have to be married for that."

Further, in the same conversation, Kiran Rao mentioned that before Aamir came into her life, she had been single for the longest time and had even enjoyed her independence. Sharing her two cents on divorce, Kiran added that generally, women don't want to get divorced due to the thought that they would get lonely. However, that's not the case with her. The filmmaker was quoted as saying:
"This is what I felt would make me happy. And it has made me very happy. Before Aamir, I was single for a very long time. I really enjoyed my independence. I was lonely, but now I have Azad so I tend not to be lonely. I think loneliness is the only reason what a lot of women are worried of when they want a divorce or lose a partner. Luckily, I haven't faced that at all. I feel very supported by both my family and his, and my friends. So it's been all good things only. It's been a very happy divorce."
Aamir and Kiran have proved that they are not the typical exes who stop talking completely after parting ways. Earlier, during an interaction at ABP Networks’ Ideas of India Summit, the 59-year-old actor recalled an anecdote about asking his ex-wife about the qualities he lacked as a husband. To his surprise, Kiran had a list ready.

Aamir revealed that Kiran had mentioned to him that he talks a lot and never lets the other person present their point of view. She also mentioned that Aamir likes to talk only about his points. Revealing further details on the same, Aamir disclosed what Kiran pointed out:
"Ek din shaam ko main baitha hua tha, maine bola Kiran, kya lagta hai as a husband mujhme kya kya kami thi? What can I improve abhi aage chalra hu life mein. She said haan likho. Bakaeda mujhe points likhwae gaye. Aap bahut baat karte hain, aap kisiko baat nhi karne dete, apne hi point pe ghuse rehte hain. Kuch 15-20 points maine likhe hue hain."
