Kishwer Merchant and Suyyash Rai are one of the most loved couples in the Hindi TV industry. The couple became household names after their stint on the show, Bigg Boss 9. The duo tied the knot in 2016 and welcomed their first child, a son, Nirvair, in 2021. However, their interfaith marriage and age gap raised many eyebrows. For the unversed, Kishwer and Suyyash share an age gap of 8 years. In a recent conversation, the TV couple opened up about the following.
Suyyash Rai and Kishwer Merchant recently appeared on a podcast hosted by renowned TV actress, Rashami Desai. During the conversation, the couple was asked about their parents’ first reaction to their interfaith marriage. For the uninitiated, Kishwer and Suyyash tied the knot in an intimate ceremony on December 16, 2016. In response, Suyyash shared that Kishwer's parents, especially her mother was really chill. He called his mother-in-law, the 'coolest mother'. The TV actor mentioned initially that his mother was hesitant due to their age gap, but with time, things changed. He was quoted as saying:
"I think her parents have been really, really chill, especially her mother. I think she is the coolest mother I know. Trust me, I'm saying this-she has always felt there was no problem. Even her father was very cool about everything. My mom is a typical Punjabi mom. She was like, 'My son has fallen in love with an older woman,' and all, but all she wanted was to meet Kishwer. It took some time for everyone to settle in and understand, but it eventually happened."

During the same conversation, Suyyash opened up about getting trolled due to their 8-year age gap and interfaith marriage. Kishwer is a Muslim, and Suyyash comes from a Hindu Punjabi family. The TV actor shared that because of social media, they went through a lot. He mentioned that although a lot happened, he never felt like saving his wife, but if someday he needs to protect her, he will show a side of himself that no one has ever witnessed. He was quoted as saying:
"Our marriage was more like a party. There was a lot of trolling because of social media- religion, age, everything. There was so much. But I never felt like I had to save my wife. If ever there comes a day when I have to protect my partner, no one has seen that side of me. What I can do, no one knows. When it comes to your loved ones, you don't think about what people will say or what society will say."

Further in the conversation, Suyyash talked about his and his wife, Kishwer’s age gap. He shared that Kishwer is eight years older than him and has seen more of life. He mentioned that his wife has been in the industry for eight or nine years before him and has more experience, fame and name. He lauded Kishwer for her hard work. He was quoted as saying:
"If she's eight years older than me, then yes, she has seen more of life. If she has been in the industry eight or nine years before me, then she has seen much more than I have. So if she has the experience, the fame, and the name, that belongs to her-she worked hard for it, she earned it. How can I even feel insecure thinking she's more famous than me? Dude, she's been there for twenty-five years. Show me anyone who can stay in this industry for twenty-five years, with dignity and consistent work. It's no joke."
