Born as Krishnakumar Kunnath, KK had created a huge identity for himself in the Indian music industry with his versatile voice. He gave his heart and soul to songs like Tadap Tadap, Khuda Jaane, Sach Keh Raha Hai Deewana, Dil Ibaadat and many more and made them immensely popular. The singer was known for his enchanting wide smile and down to earth personality.
In a tragic turn of events, the 53-year-old singer bid adieu to the world on May 31, 2022, after suffering a massive heart attack. KK was performing at Sir Gurudas Mahavidyalaya fest at Nazrul Mancha in Kolkata when he had felt unwell. On his way to the hotel, the singer had collapsed and as he was rushed to CMRI hospital, he was declared brought dead.

On June 2, 2022, KK was cremated at Versova Hindu Cemetery and it was his son, Nakul Krishna Kunnath, who performed the last rites. While bidding the final goodbye, Nakul lit his father’s pyre and broke down into tears. The heart-wrenching moment made everyone emotional.
On June 1, 2022, KK's mortal remains were brought to Rabindra Sadan in Kolkata, where he was given a tribute. As a mark of respect to the legendary singer, the West Bengal police had given gun salutes to him, and CM, Mamta Banerjee had also paid her last respect. In the heartbreaking visuals, KK's wife, Jyothy Krishna was seen bursting into tears seeing the mortal remains of her husband.

In an interview with PTI, the doctor, who had conducted KK’s autopsy had revealed that he had several prolonged heart blockages, which had remained untreated. He had further added that due to dancing for three long hours, KK had experienced a stoppage of blood flow leading to cardiac arrest. In his words:
“The vocalist had 80 per cent blockage in the left main coronary artery and small blockages in various other arteries and sub-arteries. None of the blockades were 100 per cent. During Tuesday’s performance, the singer was walking around and at times dancing with the crowd which created excessive excitement that caused a stoppage of blood flow leading to cardiac arrest.”
He had further shared that the singer could have been saved if he would have provided CPR when he had fallen unconscious. Talking about the same, the medical practitioner had retorted:
“As a result, KK fell unconscious and had a cardiac arrest. If CPR had been given immediately, the artiste could have been saved.”
KK had finally said ‘alvida’ to all his fans! May his soul rest in peace.
