In the first episode of the seventh season of the celebrity talk show, Koffee With Karan welcomed Gully Boy's lead actors, Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt. The show was quite entertaining as a whole, but there was one incident that broke the hearts of many people, who used to admire Alia. During one of the show's segments, Alia opened up about how Saif Ali Khan's son, Ibrahim Ali Khan, sent her a congratulatory text for her incredible performance in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Gangubai Kathiawadi. However, how Alia read Ibrahim's cute message and how Ranveer and Karan were laughing at it simply angered many people. Ibrahim's heartfelt message was read out loud by the actress amid fits of loud laughter from Ranveer and Karan, and it goes like this:
"Had to remove the time to message you personally. I cannot believe this is the same lady, I learn from every time I am on set, you're just phenomenal. You're so so good as Gangu and seeing you as Rani and then watching this film, it's safe to say you mould yourself effortlessly, like water taking shape of its container. So so good! Best actress in this country."
As soon as the first episode of Karan Johar's celebrity talk show, Koffee With Karan season 7 went live. People started trolling the actress for making fun of Ibrahim Ali Khan. Most users accused Alia of mocking a youngster by making fun of his English and sending a cute message to her on national television without caring about the aftermath of it. Some people also admitted that they never expected such behaviour from Alia, who has already been a victim of online bullying. One user even wrote, "I've really started disliking her even more than I used to before, after the episode. She was being a snob."
