Bollywood actress, Kriti Sanon is one of the most sought-after actresses of Bollywood. The stunning actress was last seen in the film, Adipurush will now portray the role of Meena Kumari in her biopic. As per multiple reports, the film will mark the directorial debut of ace fashion designer, Manish Malhotra.
The report further claimed that the film, in which Kriti Sanin will portray the character of the tragedy queen, will be produced by Bhushan Kumar under his banner, T-Series. A report in Hindustan Times claimed:

“Legendary actress Meena Kumari’s biopic is in the works and will mark the directorial debut of designer Manish Malhotra. Essaying the role of Meena Kumari in the film that celebrates her fascinating life will be the stunner Kriti Sanon. The film, produced by Bhushan Kumar, is in the scripting stage. Manish Malhotra has often expressed that recreating the magic that Meena Kumari was, has been his long-cherished dream.”

Meena Kumari is known for her iconic roles in films like Baiju Bawra, Pakeezah, Ghazal, Parineeta, Kaajal, Kohinoor, Sahib, Biwi Aur Ghulam, Dil Apna Aur Preet Parai and Dil Ek Mandir. Born as Mahjabeen Bano, Meena Kumari was the most bankable actress in the Indian film industry. She was also a poet and used the pseudonym, Naaz. Often described as ‘the tragedy queen’, Meena Kumari’s life was never a bed of roses. Her disastrous personal life overshadowed her successful career spanning 33 years.
Meena Kumari was hopelessly head-over-heels in love with filmmaker, Kamal Amrohi, who was already a married man and had three children. Meena got married to Kamal in a secret nikaah ceremony. Kamal was never a good husband and would put constant surveillance on Meena. She was a victim of domestic abuse in her married life.

Finally, in 1964, Meena Kumari divorced Kamal Amrohi. But the depression had already taken over her, making her an alcoholic. By 1968, Meena’s health had deteriorated, and she was diagnosed with liver cirrhosis. One month after the release of her last film, Pakeezah, Meena was hospitalised at St. Elizabeth's Nursing Home. After two days of being in the coma, she breathed her last on March 31, 1972, at the young age of 38.
Talking about Kriti Sanon's professional front, the stunning actress proved her acting skills with her recent releases like Bareilly Ki Barfi, Luka Chuppi and Mimi. Kriti will next be seen in The Crew alongside Kareena Kapoor Khan and Tabu.
