A comedian’s life is not easy, even on bad days, they stand up on stage and make others laugh. Something similar had happened to famous comedian, Krushna Abhishek. He is one of the sought-after artists in Bollywood and the television industry, who has won hearts with his witty jokes. From depicting ‘Sapna’ in The Kapil Sharma Show to working in several movies, including Bol Bachchan and Entertainment, Krushna has come a long way.
However, he recently recalled one unforgettable moment of his life when he had to perform on national television ten days after his father’s demise. In a career span of almost a decade, Krushna had also hit the headlines for a few controversies and family feuds. For the unversed, Krushna is the nephew of superstar, Govinda, and they are not on talking terms.
In a recent chat with Maniesh Paul for his podcast, Krushna Abhishek was asked how comedians perform in front of thousands of audiences when they are not having a good day. To this, Krushna recalled one of the toughest phases of his life, when he had performed on the sets of Comedy Nights Bachao back in 2016, ten days after his dearest father, Atmaprakash Sharma’s demise. He said that he had even done comedy shows when his father was battling cancer in the hospital. He shared:
“Unka Chautha ho gaya tha. (Four days had passed since his death). The channel guys came to me and said ‘We are in a bind, we can’t do anything, we have Katrina Kaif’s dates’. I told them ‘Mere father ki tehrvi abhi hui nahi hai toh main toh kaise karunga? Perform toh main kar hi nahi paunga.’ (My father’s tehrvi hasn’t happened yet, how will I perform? I will not be able to perform).”
Further in the interview, Krushna shared that his father was a firm believer in Lord Krishna’s ideals. Hence, his daddy had always taught him not to stop, no matter what. Krushna can be quoted as saying:
“Mere father mujhe hamesha bolte the ki karam karte raho, voh Krishna bhakt the, tabhi mera naam unhone Krushna rakha. (My father always told me, keep doing what you are doing, he was a devotee of Lord Krishna, that’s why he named me Krushna). Show must go on, unka voh vala hisab tha, chahe kuch bhi ho jaye, tu kaam karte rehna aur chalte rehna toh mere dimag mein voh baat thi toh main gaya uss din. (He believed that the show must go on, no matter what happens and I was thinking of the same that day, so I went that day).”
In the same interview, the comedian shared that in that show, Katrina Kaif was the guest, and she knew about his loss. After his incredible performance that day, he said that he had received a standing ovation from the audience. In his words:
“Aur maine uss din jo perform kia… Katrina ko pata tha iss baat ka. Sabne end mein standing ovation dia mujhe. Ki yaar iss bande ne itna tough time hone ke baad, father expire ho gaye hain, tehrvi nahi hui hai , dasva din tha aur maine jaake sabko hasaya. Toh aise bhi kayi moments aa jate hain life ke andar. (The performance that I gave that day… Katrina knew about my situation. Everyone gave me a standing ovation in the end. That this guy, despite facing such a tough time, his father has passed just ten days ago, and he made everyone laugh. Such moments happen in life).”
For the unversed, Krushna Abhishek is married to actress, Kashmera Shah and together, they have two beautiful twin boys, Rayaan and Krishaang.
