Veteran actress and activist, Kunickaa Sadanand, recently shared her heartfelt take on modern-day dating, expressing her blunt stance against casual flings, situationships and one-night stands. The actress, who made headlines for her long-term romance with renowned singer, Kumar Sanu, once again grabbed attention with her bold take on relationships.
In a recent interview with Hindi Rush, Kunickaa opened up about her deeply personal approach to relationships, declaring that she has never indulged in intimacy without emotional investment. The veteran actress shared how she always envisioned a future with a potential love interest before committing to the relationship. She said:
“I have never looked at a relationship as a one-night stand or a fling. In every relationship I’ve had in my life, I have always envisioned a future for it and dreamed about it. I don’t understand concepts like one-night stands, friends with benefits, or situationships because, in a way, you’re throwing yourself into something without meaning.”
The modern era of dating stands in stark contrast to old-school romance. In the past, romantic connections were built gradually, rooted in emotional investment and thoughtful contemplation before progressing toward deeper physical and emotional intimacy. Today, however, dating often revolves around casual flings and one-night stands, no strings attached. For Kunickaa, it makes no sense as she believes in meaningful companionship over fleeting intimacy. In her words:
“Main apne body ko, apne mann ko, apne dil ko itna respect karti hu ki main uska iss tarah se misuse nahi kar sakti. Aur agar I am in it, then it has to be for a future. Aur yeh sad chiz hai ki nahi ho paaya, aur rishta jitna bhi dinn chala sab bahut acha acha yaadein de kar gaye hain. Unn yaadon ke sahare bhi jee sakti hu.”
Kunickaa further shared that people raised in stable, nurturing environments often approach relationships with emotional maturity, valuing trust, consistency, and long-term commitment. In contrast, those from emotionally unstable backgrounds may develop avoidant attachments, preferring casual encounters, not due to a lack of interest in love but more as a defence mechanism to protect their emotional boundaries. In her words:
“People who grew up with stable, nurturing bonds often look for committed relationships, seeing intimacy as emotionally meaningful. On the other hand, those with a more avoidant attachment style may lean toward casual encounters, valuing independence over emotional closeness. In the end, it all comes down to a mix of emotional wiring and life experiences.”
Kunickaa Sadanand has never shied away from making bold statements, be it regarding her personal life, her acting career or as an off-screen activist for women’s rights. A romantic realist in real life, Kunickaa believes in old-school romance. She is someone who has always envisioned a future with her partner in every romantic encounter she has had over the years. Earlier this year, the Gumraah actress made headlines when she opened up about her five-year-long relationship with singer Kumar Sanu. Kunickaa shared how their bond blossomed despite the shadows of his troubled marriage, but it ended amicably.
