Kusha Kapila recently made headlines for her drastic weight loss transformation, setting social media abuzz with speculations around her weight loss and diet plans. Some even pointed out the possibility that she used Ozempic to look so significantly slimmer in her recent public outings. Amid all this buzz, Kusha has now taken it upon herself to reclaim her narrative. In a recent vlog, the comedian-turned-actress got real about her decades-long weight management challenges.
This isn’t Kusha’s first transformation, nor her first experience with toxic body standards. In a new GRWM (Get Ready With Me) vlog, Kusha opened up like never before about her deeply personal battle with body image and the reason behind her transformation. The content creator, who gained popularity for posting comic content on her social media, spoke up about various reels going around about her weight loss.
Kusha opened up about turning to humour as a coping mechanism during her college years, after trying and failing to lose weight since she was ten years old. However, one particular joke from a friend affected her so severely that she resorted to unhealthy weight loss tactics, even consuming less than 800 calories a day. Kusha shared:
“In college… Instead of working on my body, I started to work on my humour. This made me famous… At 22… after my friend sent me a picture of me and told me, ‘Kusha, what’s up?’ it changed me. In six months, I lost weight in the most unhealthy manner possible. I consumed less than 800 calories a day.”
Kusha also spoke of feeling lonely after moving to Mumbai, navigating heartbreak following her divorce from Zorawar Ahluwalia in 2023, and battling adult acne all over her body and face. After a routine health check-up, she got a wake-up call from her doctors to change her lifestyle gave her the push she needed. Talking about the struggles as she neared the thirties, Kusha shared:
“As I was nearing 30, I made it all about my work and started to ignore my body. I did try and eat healthy and try different diets and workouts, but… I needed balance. I realised, this time work has become my validation… I felt extremely lonely here… When I saw doctors, all they had to say was: ‘You will have to change your lifestyle.’ This motivated me to lose weight.”
When she moved to Mumbai to pursue her acting dreams, Kusha had to face the typecasting that actors in bigger bodies often face, saying that she was getting offered the roles of 45 to 50-year-olds at only 33, but she didn’t want to get those roles. In her words:

“I had acting dreams, and because I was in a bigger body, I was getting all aunty characters whose age was between 45-50. I didn’t want to take up that role at 33. It made no sense to me. I was so lonely in Mumbai, and there were so many speculations about my life that I took out all my bhadaas at the gym and worked out… This time, I lost weight for myself… Body positivity doesn’t mean that you cannot want to be healthy or work out. It is about being kinder to all body types.”
