Smriti Irani is all set to reprise her cult classic role of 'Tulsi Virani' in the hit TV serial, Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi's reboot version. Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi 2 has already sparked a sense of nostalgia among fans, and the reboot is set to premiere on July 29, 2025, from 10:30 p.m. onwards. Now, national award-winning designer, Gaurang Shah, is the man behind styling 'Tulsi Virani' and shared about his weaving style for her character in the reboot version. The makers of the serial shared a new promo video, where Gaurang is seen talking about the costume styles of 'Tulsi'.
Smriti's character, 'Tulsi', in Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi has been best known for wearing a simple saree, bindi and having a sweet smile. This has been her OG look for decades. Smriti was shown in the serial as a bahu before her name was echoed as 'Tulsi' in every Indian household. Smriti has created a legacy with her character, and Gaurang, in one of the promo clips, shared how he weaved Indian traditions in 'Tulsi's sarees. In his words:
"Smriti ji called me. I have tried to give her a variety of Indian textiles. From khadi jamdanis to silk organza bandhanis, created specially for her chiffon in Kanjeevaram, which is something very unusual. I have woven special blouses for her, bandhani sarees with pattan patola blouses."
Smriti, earlier in an interview with IANS, had shared that Gaurang Shah has not just designed sarees, but he has woven stories, traditions, and modernity into every thread. For Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi 2, his work brought alive the soul of Indian craft through the artistry of our weavers. She will be seen wearing Gaurang's creations in the reboot version of Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi 2. For the unversed, the serial, apart from airing on Star Plus, will also be streaming on JioHotstar, which will grab the attention of the audience online.
Smriti also added that Gaurang has blended a timeless confluence of heritage and contemporary thought in his creations that are magical on the cloth. He has crafted traditions pan India, and 'Tulsi Virani's' wardrobe showcases tissue-light Kanjeevarams in chiffon, silk-hued Bandhanis, which are hand dyed, ikkats, along with rare Jamdani, where each motif has a meaning behind the same. Gaurang, who designed for Smriti, further told IANS:
"It has been a true delight to weave for Smriti Irani, a woman who, through Tulsi, became a symbol of strength, grace, and an icon for countless Indian women. Tulsi represents every woman who holds on to her values."
