Love is in the air for Lalit Modi, founder of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The flamboyant businessman, who was previously involved with former Miss Universe and actress, Sushmita Sen, has officially confirmed their breakup and announced his second chance at love with a new partner. On the occasion of Valentine’s Day 2025, Lalit publicly announced his new romantic relationship which allegedly evolved from a 25-year-long friendship.

Lalit Modi surprises followers on Valentine’s Day with his ‘lucky twice’ post

On February 14, 2025, Lalit Modi found the perfect opportunity to announce his new relationship to the world. Taking to his Instagram handle, the ex-chairman of IPL shared glimpses of his special moments with his new partner. Modi’s post was a mix of nostalgia and new beginnings. He added a heartfelt Valentine’s Day wish for his followers in the post’s caption that read:

“Lucky Once - Yes. But I got lucky TWICE. When a 25 year friendship turns to LOVE. It happened twice. Hope it does for you all too. #happyvalentinesday to you all.”

While the identity of his new partner remains a mystery, social media was abuzz with speculation. The video, featuring cosy moments and candid shots of the much-in-love couple, quickly garnered congratulatory messages from followers and well-wishers.

Lalit Modi’s relationship with Sushmita Sen

Lalit Modi and Sushmita Sen’s high-profile relationship buzz first came into the limelight back in 2022 when the former shared intimate photos from their Maldives vacation, referring to her as his ‘better half’ and announcing ‘a new beginning’. His Instagram bio even reflected this, declaring his love for the former Miss Universe. Sharing pictures from the vacation on his IG, Lalit wrote:

"Just back in London after a whirling global tour #maldives # sardinia with the families - not to mention my #betterhalf @sushmitasen47 - a new beginning a new life finally. Over the moon. In love does not mean marriage YET. BUT ONE THAT BY GODS GRACE WILL HAPPEN. I JUST ANNOUNCED THAT WE ARE TOGETHER"

However, just months later, fans noticed that Modi had quietly removed all mentions of Sushmita Sen from his social media, sparking breakup rumours. In 2023, Sushmita addressed their relationship status, calling it ‘just another phase’ and brushing off the ‘gold digger’ tag that had been thrown her way by trolls after reports of their possible breakup surfaced on the internet.

A brief glimpse into Lalit Modi’s love life

Before his relationship with Sushmita Sen, Lalit Modi was in a 27-year marriage with Minal Sagrani, with whom he had tied the knot in 1991 and had two children, Ruchir and Aliya. Lalit also has a stepdaughter, Karima Sagrani, from Minal’s previous marriage. After Minal’s tragic passing in 2018, Modi’s personal life remained in the spotlight, especially during his relationship with Sushmita Sen. Now, he has found love again with his longtime friend of 25 years.

Lalit Modi left India in 2010, after receiving threats from the notorious gangster leader, Dawood Ibrahim. The IPL founder has since been residing in a self-imposed exile in London, UK.
