Sutapa Waits For Late Hubby, Irrfan Khan's Rebirth, Says, 'I Will Connect With The Baby Somehow'

Actors, especially good actors, have this unique ability to bring a scripted character to life. From conveying emotions through eyes to delivering monologues with ease, the late actor, Irrfan Khan was one such brilliant performer who had blurred the lines between reel and real with his stellar acting chops. He rose to global platforms and did iconic movies like Slumdog Millionaire, Life Of Pi, Jurassic Park and many more. However, the whole world had come crashing down for his wife, Sutapa Sikdar, and their sons, Babil Khan and Ayaan Khan, when he lost his life to a neuroendocrine tumour on April 29, 2020.

For the unversed, Irrfan and his wife, Sutapa had fallen in love during their teenage days at the National School of Drama. She was learning the art of acting but wanted to pursue story and screenplay writing. By 1995, Irrfan and Sutapa had firmly established their roots in the entertainment industry and then had a simple court marriage. After a few years of marital bliss, the lovebirds were blessed with two adorable children, Babil Khan and Ayaan Khan.

Sutapa added that she firmly believes in rebirth, and she would definitely find out the baby if Irrfan ever came back to this world as a newborn child. She stated:

“You know the toughest of the days or nights as you mentioned generally its nights where suddenly it would start raining, or something would happen, or a book will fall which was his favourite, or something and I know he is around. I know he is around till perhaps I believe in rebirth, Islam doesn’t but I believe in rebirth. Till he is born again he will be around and even if he is reborn. I say it with so much faith so much surety that I will connect with the Baby somehow or the other. Whenever he is born, our connection is so that we will meet again.”

Further, in the conversation, Sutapa revealed how she had faced the pain of losing her life partner, Irrfan, with a brave smile. She also narrated how she felt goosebumps to witness the kind of love and response from Irrfan’s fans worldwide after his sudden demise. In her words:

“I wanted to go with a brave smile because you know one like you mentioned. It has been a big surprise for me he was not that kind of a star right but the kind of messages the kind of love and it is love it is because they don’t know me you know it’s like I just felt goosebumps seeing those things and listening to those messages or somebody’s telling me whatever you know it’s just kind of I felt that’s his legacy is not a studio his legacy is not you know like a company or anything I felt his legacy is his fans his legacies are his fans who still would think that he’s around.”

Earlier, in a candid conversation with GQ, Irrfan Khan's son, Babil Khan had revealed an unknown story about his father. While acknowledging his mother, Sutapa's sacrifices, Babil recalled how she had always ensured that his baba's work continued without interruption. However, his dad, Irrfan Khan had never given enough credit to Sutapa. Babil could be quoted as saying:

"She sacrificed her career to raise us and make sure Baba's work continued uninterrupted. And let me tell you, she's a very ambitious woman. It takes a lot to put your ambitions aside for your partner, for your children. It must've killed her to do it and yet she did. Baba was Baba because Mumma was Mumma. He'd be nothing without her. And I don't think she gets enough credit. Not even from Baba."
