Leander Paes' Ego Couldn't Accept Rhea Pillai's Decision To Separate, Cheated On Her Since Day One

Tennis player, Leander Adrian Paes found himself in knee-deep trouble with his then-girlfriend, Rhea Pillai, after she accused him of domestic abuse. What started as a blooming love story, turned into one of the most tragic tales known to the country. Rhea started dating Leander in 2003, but what happened a decade later she charged him with domestic abuse? Let's find out.

Rhea Pillai revealed that Leander Paes' ego could not take her decision to separate

Rhea Pillai and Leander Paes started dating in 2003 and welcomed their daughter, Aiyana in 2005. However, by the end of 2012 things had started to become strained in their relationship. Their legal battle started after Rhea applied for the custody of their daughter, but turned sour in 2014 when she alleged that her then-boyfriend and his father were abusing her emotionally, mentally and physically.

During an interview with Mumbai Mirror, Rhea had revealed that there was nothing good about their relationship. Rhea added that she was just trying to salavge the relationship for the sake of their daughter. However, there came a point when she couldn't take it anymore and decided to seperate from Leander Paes. Unfortunately, his ego could not take her decision and he started harassing her. She was quoted as saying:

"Nothing was ever hunky dory. I was just saving my marriage for the sake of my child. I had made peace with myself but there came a point when I decided that we needed to separate. His ego couldn't accept my decision."

In the same conversation, Rhea Pillai further gave insight into her relationship with Leander Paes. She revealed that while it might have seemed like a happy relationship, there have been troubles for a long time. During the chat, she also made the shocking revelation about Leander cheating on her since day one.

According to the reports, Rhea Pillai had borrowed money from her friends after she had drained off all her savings. It was revealed that after Leander Paes moved out all the responsibilites of the house and their daughter had come on her. Which was further aggravated after their daughter, Aiyana was diagnosed with a brain tumour in 2016. Rhea wanted Leander to pay Rs. 1.87 lakh for their daughter's medical expenses and Rs. 75,000 for herself. While Rhea demaned justice, Leander claimed he had been paying his share. However, once the case went to court new details surfaced as Rhea recalled how Leander harassed her by locking her out of her own house. She stated:

"Yes, Leander locked me out. I'd gone with my child for a birthday party (Rani Mukerji's neice's). Leander and his mother were running out of the building as I was entering. They even put my clothes in boxes and threw them out. Actually, five people had forcibly broken into my house once before too."

What happened to Rhea Pillai and Leander Paes' legal battle?

In 2022, the Metropolitan magistrate, Komalsing Rajput found the tennis player guilty of domestic abuse and directed Leander to pay a monthly rent of Rs. 50,000 to Rhea, apart from monthly maintenance of Rs. 1 lakh. This would only be valid if Rhea choses to move out of their shared residence. Later in the same year, Leander appealed the ruling. However, there have not been any other updates on their hearing.
