Lily Collins Of 'Emily In Paris' Shares Struggles Of Being Mom Via Surrogacy And Husband's Support

Lily Collins rose to worldwide fame for her superhit Netflix series, Emily In Paris. While fans loved her fashion choices in the show and the way she overcame challenges in a new country, her personal life often makes headlines. Earlier, in January 2025, Lily Collins welcomed her first child with Charlie McDowell, a baby girl named Tove Jane McDowell. 

Lily Collins penned a heartfelt note on motherhood struggles and her husband's support on their fourth anniversary

On September 4, 2025, Lily and her husband, Charlie, completed four years of togetherness. The gorgeous actress shared two photos showing how life has changed in the past four years. The first photo she posted was of her whimsical wedding. It was a Polaroid monochrome picture, in which Lily was dressed up in a white-hued bodycon dress with a high neck. On the other hand, her husband, Charlie, wore a black-hued tuxedo with a black bow tie and a crisp white-hued shirt. He held their puppy in their arms, and it was the most beautiful moment.

In the second photo, her husband was holding their daughter, Tove, in his arms and showed her the waves of the beach while their baby dog was watching the two. Tove was dressed up in a rainbow-striped onesie with a baby cap. On the other hand, their daddy, Charlie, wore an all-black casual ensemble. 

Sharing the photos, Lily penned a heartfelt note reflecting on the struggles of the past as a first-time mother. She welcomed her baby girl via surrogacy. She stated that it's been four years since she got married to her best friend. She added that he has been an incredible father, husband and partner. She admitted that she couldn't have functioned alone if he weren't there. She wrote:

"Four years ago I married my best friend, and today, we not only have our steadfast buddy @redforddog but our newest and most magical bestie T. I cannot express how lucky I feel to be yours every single day. Thank you for being the most incredible dad, wonderful husband, supportive partner, and inspiring other half. You go above and beyond in our family — it’s the big picture things but it’s really, most importantly, the daily little things you do that blow my mind. I couldn’t have worked, let alone functioned, these past few months without you stepping in and up as you have. With the highs and lows, your steadfast love gets me through and I never could have imagined a life or partnership like ours. To think it’s just the beginning, grateful doesn’t even begin to describe it. I love you beyond…"

When Lily announced her baby's arrival via surrogacy

In January 2025, Lily and Charlie welcomed their first child via surrogacy. The couple took to their social media handle and announced the same. She welcomed her daughter and her name to to world. The couple even thanked their surrogate for giving them the priceless gift. The two wrote in their joint statement:

"Welcome to the center of our world Tove Jane McDowell. Words will never express our endless gratitude for our incredible surrogate and everyone who helped us along the way. We love you to the moon and back again."

It is worth mentioning that Lily, who is 35, and Charlie (41) posted a picture of their daughter, Tove, dressed up in a beige-hued onesie and a matching hat along with it. She was lying in a cosy bed of blankets while Lily placed a comforting hand on her belly. A blanket monogrammed with their daughter's name was put on the bassinet.
