Sam Rivers' early life: He worked in Burger King and Chick-fil-A before forming the rock-rap band, Limp Bizkit

Sam Rivers started his schooling at Bishop Kenny High School and the Douglas Anderson School of the Arts in Jacksonville, Florida. He was much into playing guitar in his early teen years, and later he turned to bass. As per the information on Anglefire.com, Sam used to play Tuba in a band called Arlington Middle before he started forming the band Limp Bizkit. Not only this, Sam Rivers even worked in the famous Chick-fil-A, as reported. As per his biography on his band's page, he also worked at Burger King at a mall in Jacksonville.

Sam Rivers was friends with Limp Bassist's Fred, and the duo tried their hand at forming Limp Bassist. Sam, who was a fan of Grunge, Black Sabbath, and Megadeath, approached John Otto to form the then-brand-new band. In 1998, Sam Rivers shot to fame with his album, Significant Others, and was named the Best Bass Player at the 2000 Gibson Awards.

Sam Rivers led a very private life, and there is very little information available about him. However, as per his biography on the fan page, FaithWeb's Limp Bizkit page, Sam Rivers was married. Reportedly, he got married to WWF owner Vince McMahon's daughter, Roxie McMahon, back in 1999, in Greenwich, CT. The couple reportedly has a daughter, Gaige. The same fan page also reported that Roxie was pregnant for the second time in 1999, but no further information is available about the same. As per Who's Dated Who, Sam Rivers and Roxie McMahon parted ways after seven years of their marital bliss.

Sam Rivers passed away at 48: A look at his health struggles

On October 18, 2025, Limp Bizkit shared a statement on social media to announce the death of Sam Rivers. They didn't disclose the reason in the statement; however, they remembered the soul of the band, which they described as pure magic. Talking about his health struggles, Sam Rivers, in 2015, left the band, when speculations were rife that he had developed a back problem and liver disease, triggered by his alcoholism, as reported by alternativenation.com. Sam later revealed in the book Raising Hell: Backstage Tales From the Lives of Metal Legends that he was diagnosed with liver disease in 2011. In 2017, he needed a liver transplant. Talking about the surgery, Sam once told NME, that:
