'Phoebe' From F.R.I.E.N.D.S, Lisa Recalls Facing Self-Doubt During A Season, Real 'Joey' Gave Advice

'So, no one told us' that F.R.I.E.N.D.S will be a healthy addiction for decades and decades. The show is crafted in such a way that it makes people feel touched, and even while witnessing the characters on the screens, it seems like we are in our comfort zones, with our own friends. The six leads from the show, 'Monica', 'Chandler', 'Joey', 'Phoebe' 'Ross' and 'Rachel', touched the deepest core of our hearts.

Last year, the passing of Matthew Perry felt like a personal loss to the fandom of the sitcom. The entire cast had a heartbreaking moment with the same, but they are coming to terms with it. Recently, 'Phoebe' from the sitcom, talked about her role in the show and how she once came across a self-doubting moment.

Lisa Kudrow talks about the challenges she faced in playing the role of 'Phoebe Buffay' on F.R.I.E.N.D.S

'Phoebe Buffay', played by Lisa Kudrow in F.R.I.E.N.D.S, had a role which was a bit unconventional and a bit different from the others. She essayed a role, who had a strange background with her mom's suicide, strained-yet-odd bond with her twin sister Ursula, her living on the streets to survive during her teenage years, weird lyrics to her songs, oddball beliefs and many more. Her character served as comic relief to the show but in an unconventional way. Well, recently, talking to Parker Posey, Lisa revealed that playing the role of 'Phoebe' was not as effortless as it looked.

Lisa mentioned that the cast had fun, thus, working on the show was fun as well, along with the outcome of it. She stated that her on-screen portrayal on the sitcom, F.R.I.E.N.D.S was far from what she is as a person in real life, and thus, it needed work from her side, and she had to come to terms with the dialogue and made herself believe in them, so that she could say it as she meant it while doing the scenes. Lisa, no doubt, played the role brilliantly, which could be perceived by the fact that F.R.I.E.N.D.S is not only a regular show but also an emotion. Lisa can be quoted as saying:

"It was fun the whole time because the cast had fun. Phoebe was so far from who I was as a human being, it was work — I needed to justify everything she was saying in my head so that it felt like she meant it and it was real to her. It was a lot of work."

Real-life 'Phoebe' had a self-doubt moment on the show and real-life 'Joey' helped her

In the same interview, Lisa Kudrow revealed that during seasons 2-3, she had a moment of self-doubt about whether she was doing it in the right way. Lisa shared that it was Matt Leblanc who provided her with advice. Matt Leblanc played the role of 'Joey' in the series. She said that Matt told her that she was 'Phoebe' herself and she wouldn't have to be the same forcefully. In Lisa's words:

"I remember Season 2 or 3, I went, ‘Oh my God, I’m not doing the work.’ And LeBlanc went, ‘What’s the matter with you? You’re her. You don’t have to."
