Kalyani Priyadarshan starer, dark fantasy superhero film, Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra made waves at the box office. The movie had an alleged budget of Rs. 30 crore, and if the reports are to be believed, within 52 days, the movie returned to Rs. 154.26 crore at the domestic box office. The film became the first ever Malayalam film to cross the mark of Rs. 150 crore, and BT reported that it has grossed Rs. 303.26 crore at the global box office.
People have been going gaga for Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra to stream soon on OTT, and the wait is seemingly over, as the female-led film is streaming on Jio Hotstar from October 20, 2025. Amid this, let's have a look at the massive paycheck that Kalyani Priyadarshan got for her amazing performance in the film. Kalyani did an amazing job while essaying the role of 'Chandra' in the movie. Now, if a report by OneIndia is to be believed, she was paid a massive salary of Rs. 80 lakh to Rs. 1.2 crore for her role in the movie. While it was never officially confirmed what the salary of the cast was, the same publication revealed that the Sandy Master, who played the role of a villain, was paid Rs. 50 lakh, while Naslen was paid Rs. 1-1.5 crore for his role in Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra.
Dominic Arun is the director and writer (along with Santhy Balachandran) of Lokah Chapter 1, while the movie is produced by Dulquer Salmaan. The dark fantasy superhero film revolves around the life of 'Chandra', a woman from Kerala. She leads a normal life in present-day Kerala, and suddenly she began to feel some changes inside of her, as she was hit with powerful visions, a sense of something waking up inside of her, and strength. Eventually, she found out that she was linked to powerful female spirit of Kerala folklore, 'Kalliyankattu Neeli'. She realised that she is her modern form whose power didn't emerge from science or technology but rather from cultural history, ancient stories, past connection, pain, and resilience.
Just like 'Chandra', the antagonist, 'Nachiyappa' also undergoes transformation to become 'Yaksha', a male supernatural being of Kerala folklore. His complex mindset is shown opposite the light and strength of 'Chandra', thereby creating a clash. Other than any other supernatural film that generally deals with the heroes saving the world by killing the villain, Lokah Chapter 1 is more about 'Chandra' accepting her identity and reality, thereby eventually finding her purpose in the world, even though it doesn't totally get her the way she is. The movie has done wonders and carved a special place in the hearts of the audience. This movie is a part of a larger cinematic universe, and thus will return with a chapter 2, where 'Chandra', accepting herself to be 'Neeli' will end up in larger supernatural universe, while unfolding more stories and battles, as it seems.
