Shikhar Dhawan’s family was not quite happy with their bond. It was a difficult task for Shikhar to convince his parents for his marriage with Ayesha. Shikar Dhawan’s father, Mahendra Pal Dhawan was strictly against their marriage, but his mother, Sunaina Dhawan was positive about their union.
After a lot of convincing, Shikhar and Ayesha had gotten engaged in 2009, but Shikhar insisted on waiting for a while before they tied the knot. He first wanted to establish himself as a successful cricketer of the Indian cricket team. He also wanted time to gel up with Ayesha’s children, Aliyah and Rhea. Ayesha too made sure that her daughters have a cordial relationship with Shikhar. Finally, after defying all odds, Shikhar and Ayesha had gotten married on October 30, 2012.
Despite being a Bengali, Shikhar and Ayesha had a traditional Sikh wedding, which was attended by many cricketers including Virat Kohli, whom you could see dancing merrily in baraat.
In an interview with The Times of India, Shikhar was asked whether it was difficult for him to get along with Ayesha’s daughter. The handsome cricketer had stated, “It wasn't difficult at all. Joh cheez kudrat se hoti hai woh ekdum aapki zindagi mein dhal jaati hain. Meri kismet mein thi meri do betiyaan, toh woh ekdum se meri zindagi mein aa gayi. It just clicked. Today, the way they love me, I feel so fortunate.”
Although, Shikhar Dhawan’s daughters, Aliyah and Rhea live with their mother, Ayesha in Australia, the doting father, Shikhar never miss an opportunity to shower his love for them. On the occasion of Daughter’s Day, i.e., September 27, 2020, Shikhar had shared a collage of pictures with Aliyah and Rhea and had written, “Happy Daughters Day! Love and miss you both” followed by a heart emoticon.

Well, Ayesha answers it like this:
For me, he's always been the same. A caring guy, who nurses dreams to make it big in life. Not that his fortunes have changed post marriage; he's worked hard to achieve them. That's so sweet of him. But there's cricket also, which he's equally passionate about. He's a responsible guy who knows the art of balancing. I am so happy to be his wife. What amazes me the most is his problem-solving abilities. Also, when he's not playing, he is a domesticated man who loves helping his wife and kids in their tasks.
