Madhoo rose to fame with her iconic hit film, Roja in 1982. Dubbed in multiple languages, the film struck a chord in several hearts. In fact, it was even more applauded for Madhoo’s performance, which subsequently gave her the name, ‘Roja girl’. However, Madhoo went on to make her Hindi debut film opposite Ajay Devgn in Phool Aur Kaante, which turned out to be another masterpiece. And now, as the film completed 32 years, Madhoo recalled several anecdotes connected to her debut film.

On November 22, 2023, the hit film, Phool Aur Kaante clocked 34 years. And to mark the special occasion, the lead actress, Madhoo shared her thoughts about the same. In an interview with ETimes, Madhoo revealed how her stardom to date is all due credited to the film, which gave her massive recognition. Calling it a cornerstone of her career, Madhoo mentioned:

“32 years into this wonderful world that has given me everything I am today. With each passing year it just makes me feel more special and grateful. It is very difficult to explain the feelings I am going through today.”

Madhoo says she never expected the success of Phool Aur Kaante that made her an overnight sensation

Well, there can be surely no doubts about the massive success of the film, including the overnight fame and stardom it brought to the two debutants, Ajay Devgn and Madhoo. She mentioned that while at first she never thought that such a successful film would be destined for her launch, she now feels thankful that she got recognised by her film itself. In her words:

“Firstly, I am feeling very great that I had such a hit debut. I was known from day one as we became stars with the first film. I didn’t even know that such a film would launch me. And such a situation would happen in my life that would make me the ‘Roja girl’ or ‘Madhoo from Phool Aur Kaante’.”

When Madhoo talked about the reason behind stepping down from films at the peak of her career

Despite attaining massive heights in the film industry within a short time period, Madhoo decided to step down from acting at a time when people expected her to perform much more. Earlier, during a session by Prime Video’s Maitri: Female First Collective, Madhoo opened up about stepping down from the industry. She mentioned that after films like Roja and Yoddha, she started to get typecasted within specific roles, something which she didn’t want to do. Moreover, she remembered writing a letter in arrogance to many people in the film industry, as she wanted to imply that they didn’t deserve an actress like her.

Madhoo’s personal life, she is married to industrialist, Anand Shah

While her professional feat is known to many, it is her personal life that has been kept under wraps. After stepping down from films, Madhoo got married to industrialist, Anand Shah. Apparently, Anand caught a glimpse of Madhoo when she shot for the film, Diljale and was immediately bowled over her beauty. After dating each other for a few years, the duo tied the knot in 1999. The couple is blessed with two daughters, Keia and Ameya.
