Sanjay Leela Bhansali's directorial film, Devdas, was a magnificent film that was an ode to unrequited love. The film featured Shah Rukh Khan as 'Devdas', Aishwarya Rai Bachchan as 'Paro' and Madhuri Dixit as 'Chandramukhi'. Apart from the storyline and larger-than-life set, it is the fashion trends that we are still in awe of even after twenty years.
Whether it is Aishwarya Rai Bachchan's saree or Maduri Dixit's lehengas in the film, it has many classic fashion moments that women take inspiration from them and try to recreate. For those who don't know, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan's jaw-dropping sarees were designed and styled by Neeta Lulla. On the other hand, Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla designed pretty lehengas for Madhuri Dixit.

For one of the scenes of the film, Madhuri Dixit had worn a real mirror-work lehenga which weighed 10 kgs. In 2019, the designer duo, Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla had revealed the details of the lehenga. They had shared that it had taken two months and an entire team of highly skilled artisans to complete the ensemble.
The same lehenga had also travelled to the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, where it was a part of the exhibition, The Fabric of India 2015. In their brief post, the designer duo had shared:
"2002: A marvel of mirrors!een in Devdas in 2002, this handcrafted ghagra features real mirrors embedded in the fabric with Zardozi embroidery. The flared, 10 panelled wonder took an entire team of highly skilled artisans two months to make and it weighs ten kilos as a set. 2015 saw the ghagra being featured at ‘The Fabric of India’ exhibit held at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London. Abu Sandeep visualized Chandramukhi as Meera – a devotee of Lord Krishna. They saw her similarly devoted to Devdas and used colours, fabrics and accessorization to express the subtleties of the enthralling but unfulfilled courtesan."
