The film was directed by Hrithik's father and director, Rakesh Roshan and it had brightened Roshan's financial condition, and everything was going well. The young actor, Hrithik Roshan had not only talked about the incident but had also thrown light and unveiled the crystal-clear involvement of the mafia in the production of films in the Bollywood industry. The interview still is one of the biggest eye-opening interviews for the fans of the Indian film industry, as it tells everything about the involvement of the underworld in the entertainment industry.
It was in the year 2000, when Hrithik Roshan was filming with Shah Rukh Khan, Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, and other biggies of the Bollywood industry for the iconic film, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham. During the film's shooting, renowned American-British comedian, Ruby Wax had visited the sets of the film to talk about the process of filmmaking in India and the much-discussed debate around the involvement of the mafia in the production of films. After having a candid talk with Shah Rukh Khan, Ruby had gone to Hrithik, and the actor had recalled the tragic incident of his father, Rakesh Roshan, when the mafia shot him for not giving them money. The doting son had stated that his daddy, Rakesh ji was outside his Santa Cruz office in January 2000. Suddenly some assailants had come and fired six rounds at his father's direction, from which two bullets had hit Rakesh ji.
When Ruby Wax had asked Hrithik Roshan the reason behind such a tragic and massive incident, the actor had revealed that after the success of his debut film, Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai, they had earned a lot of money, and that's when the mafia had entered into the frame. He had said, "My father was in a lot of debt because we had borrowed a lot of money to make the film. The film struck big time--it was the biggest hit in the past five-six years. The one that made me a star (Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai). Just in the first week, this happened. They knew my father has hit big time, he is successful, money is going to come in. So they wanted money, we didn't pay. They shot him. Point blank."

Going further in his interview, Hrithik Roshan had clearly stated that the incident had changed his perspective towards things and life, and he had understood the simple fact that what is meant to happen will happen, and there's no point in fearing about the same. He had stated, "That's what made me believe that there is no point living in fear. If you are destined to die with that bullet, you will. If you're not, you won't. So it's okay." For the unversed, last year in 2020, the sharpshooter Sunil V Gaikwad, who had shot Rakesh Roshan back in 2000 was arrested by police and was sent to jail for 11 murder cases and 7 attempt to murder cases against him.
