Huma Qureshi’s political saga, Maharani, kept everyone hooked to their screens. The story weaves around 'Rani Bharti', an average housewife who was later thrust into the centre of Bihar politics. As she rose to power, she gradually turned into a shrewd politician. Season 4 of the series ended at a cliffhanger, leaving the audience excited and enthralled.
Season 4 of Maharani saw Huma Qureshi don the role of a fearless politician, moving from the Chief Minister of Bihar to the power struggles of Delhi. The season sees her battle Prime Minister Shree Sudhakar Sriniwas Joshi, played by Vipin Sharma. When Rani was accused of murdering Governor Govardhan Das by Prime Minister Joshi, she gave up her CM position, naming her daughter Roshni (Shweta Basu Prasad) as her replacement.

Rani then fights to become the Prime Minister of India, and just as she prepares for her coronation, everything falls apart. Rani’s loyalists turn against her, and her son, Jai, falls in love with the Home Minister’s daughter, who keeps a condition for marriage. The family puts a condition: Roshni must resign as CM and let Jai take over the seat.

The real drama unfolds when Rani’s family is targeted. Her daughter, Roshni, gets framed and imprisoned. On the other hand, her son, Jai, along with his friend, is found dead under mysterious circumstances. Later, Rani's youngest son, Surya (Darsheel Safary), finds out through the home minister’s daughter that the postmortem reports were false, and Jai and his friend were brutally tortured and then murdered.

The revelation sees Rani in a fierce avatar and shifts her focus from politics to vengeance. In the last few moments, Rani’s transformation from a politician to a mother avenging the death of her son became the focus. The line between political rivalry and personal vendetta turns blurry. When PM Joshi visits her home along with her wife, she tells him, “Main tujhe chhodungi nahi.” Her confrontation with Joshi sets the tone for season 5, which would focus not on power but on Rani's pursuit of justice.

The show draws inspiration from historical events, but then weaves a fictional story full of drama and suspense. Maharani season 1 began with the on-screen Bihar CM, 'Bheema Bharti', played by Sohum Shah, making his naive, unlettered wife the CM after he is temporarily indisposed. This main plot point reminded people of the time when former Bihar CM Lalu Prasad Yadav appointed his wife, Rabri Devi, as the state's chief minister.

Meanwhile, the liquor ban in Bihar by on-screen CM, 'Navin Kumar' in seasons 2 and 3 might have been inspired by real-life Bihar CM, Nitish Kumar banning alcohol in the state. Even the real and reel names are quite similar. Some of the political rivalries and alliances shown in Maharani seasons 2 and 3 also felt familiar to people.
