'Maharani' Season 4 Is Based On A True Story? What's Real And What's Fictional In The Show Revealed

Maharani is all set to raise the curtains on its season 4. Starring Huma Qureshi as the protagonist, this political drama has everyone hooked with its portrayal of the depths of the social and political spheres. The story weaves around 'Rani Bharti' as an average housemaker thrust into the centre of Bihar politics, rising into power as a shrewd politician. However, people are curious to know if the character of 'Rani Bharti' and the story of Maharani season 4 are inspired by true events. Here's what we know.

Is the Maharani series inspired by a true story?

In season 4 of Maharani, 'Rani Bharti', played by Huma Qureshi, isn't a naive housemaker forced to be the Chief Minister of Bihar anymore. She has become a seasoned political leader. After conquering her state, she is now embroiled in a political and ideological tussle with the powers at the centre. After watching the recently released trailer people are reminded by some of the political situations of the late 90s. So, is Maharani season 4 based on a true story?

The answer is both yes and no. The show draws inspiration from historical events, but then weaves a fictional story full of drama and suspense. Maharani season 1 began with the on-screen Bihar CM, 'Bheema Bharti', played by Sohum Shah, making his naive, unlettered wife the CM after he is temporarily indisposed. This main plot point made people remember the time when former Bihar CM Lalu Prasad Yadav made his wife, Rabri Devi the state's chief minister. However, apart from this a lot of the drama that followed and the twist at end of the show was fictional and for the purpose of entertainment.

Meanwhile, the liquor ban in Bihar by onscreen CM, 'Navin Kumar' in seasons 2 and 3 might have been inspired by real-life Bihar CM, Nitish Kumar banning alcohol in the state. Even the reel and real names are quite similar. Some of the political rivalries and alliances shown in Maharani season 2 and 3 also felt familiar to people.

Maharani season 4 is based on real-life situations

Just like season 1, Maharani season 4 has also taken inspiration from the politics of Bihar only woman Chief Minister ever, Rabri Devi. The upcoming season shows a tug-of-war between Bihar CM, 'Rani Bharti', and the Prime Minister at the centre. The state and centre find each other at two different ends of all political decisions, completely opposing each other. Similarly, in real life, this was witnessed during the early 2000s. People have also wondered if the character of 'Jai' is based on a real person. Interestingly, 'Jai' is called the 'Youngest CM of Bihar' in the show. This tag was used for Tejaswi Yadav in the 2020 Bihar State Assembly Elections. However, apart from this, there is nothing to note if the character is based on the RJD leader.
