Sridevi was not only one of the most talented and versatile actresses in Indian cinema but also a remarkable woman off-screen. Throughout her illustrious career, she delivered countless hit films, leaving audiences in awe of her stellar performances. However, beyond the spotlight, Sridevi was a loving wife, a devoted friend, and a doting mother, not just to her own daughters, Janhvi and Khushi Kapoor, but also to the children in the extended Kapoor family. Recently, her sister-in-law, Maheep Kapoor, shared how Sridevi stepped in as a mother figure during times she felt overwhelmed while caring for her daughter, Shanaya Kapoor.
Shanaya Kapoor, the daughter of Sanjay and Maheep Kapoor, is gearing up for her much-anticipated Bollywood debut. Ahead of this exciting milestone, Maheep, best known for her appearance in the Netflix reality series, Fabulous Lives of Bollywood Wives, opened up about the special role Sridevi played in Shanaya’s life. In a recent chat with Filmfare, Maheep fondly recalled how Sridevi had been a maternal figure to Shanaya. She shared:
"She was very motherly. Shanaya’s ears were first pierced by Sridevi. I was very paranoid, but Sri took Shanaya aside and did the procedure with ease.”
Maheep also talked about Sridevi's deeply captivating aura. Despite not eating or drinking anything during Karwa Chauth fasts, Sridevi used to walk like a queen, such was her magic. Maheep shared:
“Sridevi was pure magic. She used to walk in like a queen at the Karwa Chauth celebration.
Maheep also shared that when Shanaya wanted her first phone, she was hesitant to get it for her. But Sridevi intervened, making sure that like her sisters, Shanaya also got a mobile phone for herself. Not only this, Maheep spoke about how she and Sanjay Kapoor often entrusted their kids to Sridevi while travelling. She recalled:
“Shanaya wanted a phone, but I refused to give it to her because she was too young. Sridevi purchased the phone for Shanaya. She was like, If Janhvi and Khushi have phones, Shanaya should also have it. When Sanjay and I used to travel, we would leave the kids with Sridevi. She would handle girls better. My son (Jahaan) would jump and play at her house and she would go mad.”
Shanaya Kapoor is following in her beloved aunt, Sridevi’s footsteps, and gearing up for her Bollywood debut. She is set to star opposite Vikrant Massey in Santosh Singh’s film, Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan. But that’s not all — even before her debut, Shanaya already has another film lined up. She will be seen starring alongside Adarsh Gourav in Tu Yaa Main, set for a Valentine’s Day 2026 release.
