The interviewer further said that along with being a great star, Mahira has also cemented her name as a ‘style icon’, and asked her “Where does that come from”. The Pakistani actress then takes a moment and reminisces about an anecdote. She said:

“I remember seeing this Time magazine cover, and it had the gorgeous Parveen Babi on it. It’s because of that cover I have watched her films, and some of her songs I just love. She was so beautiful, such a style goddess.”

Further into the conversation, the interviewer asked Mahira Khan, if she had a favourite song of the Indian screen siren, Parveen Babi. She blushingly sang the lyrics of the song, Jawani Janeman from the 1982 film, Namak Halaal. For the unversed, Indian actress and model, Parveen Babi was one of the most talented ones in the Indian film industry. She was among the highest-paid actresses of the 1970s and early 1980s.

Parveen was popular for her flawless acting style, and her modelling and extravagant fashion sense made her an icon of the 90s. Her career reached its peak when most actresses adhered to traditional Indian wear, but on the other hand, Parveen’s attire was completely Westernised, which gave her a certain freedom that other female artists of her time were denied in India's male-dominated film industry.
