Ranveer Singh's upcoming film, Dhurandhar has been making a lot of noise on the internet, ever since the makers dropped its trailer. But, while the film is receiving massive love, it has also grabbed attention for the wrong reasons. A few days ago, multiple reports claimed that the film is based on the real-life story of late Major Mohit Sharma. And even though the director of the film, Aditya Dhar denied all rumours, parents of Mohit Sharma have moved to court.
On November 28, 2025, parents of Ashoka Chakra and Sena Medal awardee, late Major Mohit Sharma filed a petition in the Delhi High Court, in which they demanded an immediate stay on the release of Aditya Dhar's film, Dhurandhar, starring Ranveer Singh.

In their petition, the family has claimed that the film appears to be inspired by Mohit Sharma's life, his undercover operations and more. They argued that a martyr is "not a commercial commodity", and no one has the right to use their life for profit, especially without consent.

The petition named multiple people and organisations like the Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), the Additional Directorate General of Public Information (ADGPI), director/co-producer, Aditya Dhar and producer, Jio Studios.

With this, the family has demanded a halt on the release of the film. They have also asked for a private screening of the film, with full access to script, raw footage and promotional material. It is worth mentioning that the family is being represented by advocates Roopenshu Pratap Singh and Manish Sharma of Samaanta Law Firm.

On November 24, 2025, late Major Mohit Sharma’s brother, Madhur had taken to his X (formerly Twitter) handle to question NDTV and Aditya Dhar regarding the rumours around Ranveer Singh playing the role of late Major Mohit Sharma. Regarding the same, Madhur penned:
"Respected @ndtv, A credible media house is expected to report facts and not mere *speculations". People are having a field day adding to it. The parents are waiting for that one confirmation whether this is about their son. @AdityaDharFilms I don't think it's Mohit, do you?"

In response to Mohit Sharma's brother, on November 26, 2025, the director of the film, Aditya Dhar took to his X handle and shared an official announcement, in which he revealed that there are no links between his upcoming film and the life of late Major Mohit Sharma. He had shared:
"Hi, sir - our film Dhurandhar is not based on the life of brave heart Major Mohit Sharma AC(P) SM. This is an official clarification. I assure you, if we do make a biopic on Mohit sir in the future, we will do it with full consent and in complete consultation with the family, and in a way that truly honors his sacrifice for the nation and the legacy it has left for all of us. Jai Hind."
Dhurandhar is an upcoming Bollywood film, directed by Aditya Dhar. For the unversed, Aditya is known for the film, Uri: The Surgical Strike. Dhurandhar, starring Ranveer Singh, Sanjay Dutt, Akshaye Khanna, R. Madhavan, Arjun Rampal, Sara Arjun and more is scheduled for a theatrical release on December 5, 2025.
