In a fair-skin-obsessed world, there are very few brides who prefer to stick to their actual skin tone. And even when the bride prefers to keep it minimal, many makeup artists think otherwise. However, there are a few exceptions, and one of them is a makeup artist named Nirmala Mohan from Chennai. She has been promoting a natural look over bulk-up foundations and cancellers.
Popular discussion platform, Reddit recently posted an appreciation post for Nirmala Mohan along with a picture of the bride she did makeup for. While scrolling through Nirmala’s official IG handle, we got our hands on some amazing works she did, especially on South Indian brides.
Instead of white-washing the brides with loads of foundation, Nirmala preferred sticking to the bride’s original skin tone. Not only this, she makes sure to highlight the features of the bride to make her stand out. Nirmala posted a reel of a bride whose transformation after the makeup was simply out of the world.
She gave the bride an initial look and revealed the kind of base she used for the bride, keeping her original skin tone intact. Along with the reel, she penned:
“Did you know that none of my brides, no matter their skin tone, ever felt hesitant to show their ‘before’ look? Because, they knew they’d still look like themselves after the makeover. A few years ago, when I asked my dusky brides if they wanted to stay true to their natural beauty or go for a lighter shade, only 2 out of 10 trusted me to highlight their real features with the right shade. Today, 10 out of 10 deep-toned brides ask for my signature look and they proud to embrace their own beauty. I’m so thankful to every bride who is helping to change the way society sees wedding makeovers. Much love to you all!”

Many a time, getting the perfect blend for a deep skin tone is not easy. It often requires trial and error. But, for Nirmala, sticking to the actual rich skin tone is important. The best part of Nirmala’s makeup is not trying to change the skin tone of any of her brides. As soon as her work was posted on Reddit, many users appreciated Nirmala and heaped praises on her work. One of the users wrote, “This makeup is definitely flawless! She looks absolutely gorgeous." Another user penned, “Omg the bride is hella gorgeous and also great makeup!! Love to see a confident bride.”
