Mamta Kulkarni's Ordination As Kinnar Akhada Leader Is Being Disputed As Question Of Ethics By Gurus

Former Bollywood actress, Mamta Kulkarni has been hogging all the headlines since the news of her embarking on her spiritual journey broke out on January 24, 2025, at the Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj. She was made the 'Mahamandaleshwar' in the Kinnar Akhada with the actress’ coronation ceremony. She reportedly performed the Pind Daan at the holy Sangam.

Spiritual gurus question the ordination of the former actress, Mamta Kulkarni as the leader of Kinnar Akhada

After the ordination of the actress, Transgender Kathavackak Jagatguru Himangi Sakhi Maa has spoken out on Mamta Kulkarni, being appointed as Mahamandleshwar of the Kinnar Akhada, that took place during the Maha Kumbh. In a conversation with ANI, Himangi Sakhi questioned the basis and credibility of the actress's appointment. She cited some incidents from Mamta Kulkarni's past and stated that she feels that the former actress was not the right pick for such a title. She was quoted saying:

"The Kinnar Akhada has made Mamta Kulkarni Mahamandleshwar for publicity. Society knows her past very well. She was even jailed in the past in connection with drug cases. Suddenly, she arrives in India, participates in the Maha Kumbh, and is given the position of Mahamandleshwar. This needs investigation."

The spiritual guru has questioned how a person with such a past can be given the title of Mahamandleshwar. She further cited it as a question of ethics and asked what kind of guru was being offered to Sanatan Dharma. She also expressed their disappointment with the ordination by stating that someone who didn't deserve to be a leader was being made one. She stated:

"By giving such a person the title of Mahamandleshwar, what kind of guru are you offering to Sanatan Dharma? This is a question of ethics. Someone who isn't worthy of being called a guru is being made one."

The former actress, Mamta Kulkarni was ordained as Mahamandleshwar of Kinnar Akhada

On January 25, 2025, former actress, Mamta Kulkarni performed the pind daan at the Sangham Ghat in Prayagraj. During an interview with ANI, Mamta called it the order of Mahadev and Maha Kaali. She stated that this was her guru's order; they chose the day and that she didn't do anything. The interview came right after Acharya Mahamandleshwar of Kinnar Akhada, Laxmi Narayan, announced that Mamta Kulkarni has embarked on a spiritual role as the Mahamandleshwar. She was quoted saying:

"Kinnar akhada is going to make Mamta Kulkarni a Mahamandleshwar. She is named Shri Yamai Mamta Nandgiri. As I am talking here, all the rituals are underway. She has been in touch with Kinnar Akhada and me for the last one and a half years... She is allowed to perform the character of any devotional figure if she wants, as we do not prohibit anyone from performing their art."

Mamta Kulkarni rose to prominence in the 1990s with her performances in hit films like Karan Arjun and Baazi. The actor has worked with top stars like Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, and Aamir Khan during her career. However, her stint in Bollywood was cut short as she stepped away from the limelight and moved abroad in the early 2000s.
